Jonathan Isaac has agreed to a contract worth $84 million that will keep him with Orlando for another five seasons, according to someone familiar with the negotiations on Tuesday.

Isaac agreed to modify the final year of his current contract and extend it, the person said, speaking anonymously to The Associated Press because the new contract can’t be finalized until the league’s offseason restrictions are lifted on Saturday.

ESPN was the first to report the agreement between Isaac and the Magic. It’s a remarkable turnaround for Isaac, who faced significant injury challenges over the past few years.

Drafted sixth overall by the Magic in 2017, Isaac suffered a left knee injury in January 2020, followed by a torn left ACL just seven months later after returning briefly in the pandemic bubble.

Throughout his recovery, Isaac also dealt with a right hamstring injury that required surgery, and his 2022-23 season ended early due to an adductor injury.

Despite these setbacks, Isaac’s recent season showed improvement. He averaged 6.8 points on 51% shooting, played in 58 games — more than he had in the previous four seasons combined — and played a key role in Orlando’s Southeast Division title and return to the playoffs. Magic coach Jamahl Mosley praised Isaac’s exceptional defensive skills during the season.
