Julio Rodríguez had a fantastic game, hitting a home run and bringing in four runs, helping the Seattle Mariners break a four-game losing streak with a 9-5 victory against the Washington Nationals on Sunday.
Ty France contributed with a two-run homer and a single that brought in the winning run for Seattle, who finished their East Coast trip with a 4-6 record.
In the eighth inning, with Seattle trailing 5-4, J.P. Crawford doubled and then scored on a single by Rodríguez, ending Dylan Floro’s 22-inning scoreless streak. Rodríguez also stole second base and scored on another single by France. He capped off Seattle’s three-run ninth inning with a single that drove in two more runs.
Manager Scott Servais praised Rodríguez’s performance, saying, “Huge game by Julio… That’s the best he’s looked all year.”
Washington took the lead with four runs in the seventh inning, highlighted by CJ Abrams’ three-run homer. Joey Gallo also homered for Washington, who finished their homestand with a 3-3 record.
Despite scoring only two runs in their previous three games, Seattle managed to score three runs in the fourth inning against Patrick Corbin, who had a 6.29 ERA. Rodríguez started the scoring with a home run, followed by a two-run homer from France.
