Omar Narváez made a big comeback in the ninth inning, getting his first hit of the season at Citi Field and helping the New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants 4-3 on Sunday. This victory stopped the Mets’ five-game losing streak.

New York had struggled in their previous games, losing leads and scoring only three runs in 18 innings. But in the ninth inning against Tyler Rogers, they turned things around.

Brandon Nimmo and J.D. Martinez started with singles, and Jeff McNeil was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Harrison Bader then hit a double, bringing in Nimmo and pinch-runner Starling Marte. Brett Baty was walked intentionally, setting the stage for Narváez, who came in to replace Tomás Nido and delivered a single on a 0-1 pitch.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza praised the team’s effort, saying, “We needed that, especially how things have been going here as of late… It’s huge.”

Narváez, who was once an All-Star, had high expectations when he joined the Mets in December 2022. However, injuries and a batting average of .196 in 75 games have been challenging for him. Despite this, Narváez remains optimistic, stating, “All the work that I’ve been putting in is going to show up.”

Adrian Houser, who pitched four innings of relief, earned the win despite being demoted to the bullpen recently. Harrison Bader commended Houser’s performance, saying, “The game will always present opportunities… Adrian filled the zone up, obviously ‘Narvy’ got a big hit for us at the end.”
