Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is uncertain about what lies ahead after completing 38 career starts over three seasons. Specifically, he is unsure whether he will continue as the starting quarterback for the franchise in 2024, especially with the team holding the No. 1 pick in the upcoming offseason.

Fields expressed, “That decision is not in my hands. All I can control is what I did do. I gave it my all. Whether it’s here or not, I have no regrets.” Following the season-ending 17-9 loss to the Green Bay Packers, Fields acknowledged the possibility that it might have been his final game with the Bears, thanking the city of Chicago and expressing gratitude to the fans.

With the Bears owning the top pick in the draft for the second consecutive year, the team faces the decision of sticking with Fields or selecting a rookie quarterback with the No. 1 pick. General manager Ryan Poles emphasized keeping an open mind and exploring all options, stating, “We’re working from a position of strength, and I’m excited for that opportunity.”

The loss to the Packers marked the Bears’ 11th straight defeat against their longtime rivals. Injuries played a role in the offensive struggles, with key players sidelined. Fields faced pressure on 50% of his dropbacks during the game, resulting in his second-lowest passing output of the season.

The Bears’ offense faced challenges on the road, scoring only one offensive touchdown in their last three away games. Despite the efforts of DJ Moore, a notable acquisition for the team, the passing offense left room for improvement.

Head coach Matt Eberflus acknowledged the need for improvement in the passing offense and expressed excitement about the performance of key players like Cole Kmet and DJ Moore. Fields, who returned from injury in Week 11, highlighted his significant improvement during the latter part of the season and awaits the team’s decision on the quarterback position.

As players meet with Poles and Eberflus for exit interviews, Fields expressed that it would mean a lot to him if the Bears choose to retain him for a fourth season. Meanwhile, the decision on Eberflus’ future with the team is yet to be determined.

Poles commended Eberflus for his leadership and ability to navigate challenges throughout the season, but the ultimate decision on the coaching staff’s future rests with the team’s leadership. The Bears finished the season with a 7-10 record, showing improvement from the previous season. The decisions regarding Fields and Eberflus will be crucial for the team’s direction in the upcoming season.
