AC Milan and Juventus continued their less-than-stellar performances with a 0-0 draw in Serie A on Saturday.
The outcome in Turin might make Juventus a bit nervous about their position in the standings by the end of the weekend. Juventus remained in third place but with only an 11-point lead over sixth-place Atalanta, which has two games in hand.
Milan, dealing with injuries to key players, was five points ahead of Juventus. In Serie A, the top five teams get to play in the Champions League next season.
Juventus has struggled lately, with just two wins in their last 13 Serie A matches, following draws against Torino and Cagliari.
Meanwhile, Milan has lost three of their last five matches in all competitions, including a defeat to Inter Milan on Monday, which confirmed Inter as Serie A champions.
In that match, Théo Hernandez and Davide Calabria got red cards, so they were suspended for this one, along with another Milan defender, Fikayo Tomori. Adding to their problems, goalkeeper Mike Maignan was injured during warmups.
With a depleted defense, the stand-in goalkeeper Marco Sportiello had a busy day, making some crucial saves. He managed to stop Dušan Vlahović’s free-kick just before halftime and pulled off a fantastic double save after the break to deny Filip Kostić and then prevent Danilo from scoring on the rebound.
Sportiello also blocked Weston McKennie’s header late in the game, and Milan defender Malick Thiaw cleared Adrien Rabiot’s follow-up shot off the goal line.
