Los Angeles Clippers star forward Kawhi Leonard will miss Game 1 against the Dallas Mavericks due to knee inflammation, as reported by The Athletic and Stadium’s Shams Charania. This setback stems from ongoing issues with Leonard’s right knee, previously affected by a torn ACL and a torn meniscus.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski cast further doubt on Leonard’s availability for Game 1, indicating growing uncertainty. Clippers’ head coach Ty Lue noted that Leonard participated in shooting drills but avoided contact during practice before the series opener.

Having last played on March 31, Leonard’s absence poses a significant challenge for the Clippers. Despite finishing the regular season with a 4-4 record without him, the team dropped their final three games. Leonard’s absence leaves a notable void, given his contributions of 23.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game this season.

In Leonard’s absence, the Clippers will rely heavily on players like Paul George, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook to drive the offense. Additionally, the likes of Norman Powell, Terance Mann, and Amir Coffey may see increased roles to compensate for Leonard’s absence on the court.
