Liverpool have reportedly identified Ruben Amorim as their top alternative to Xabi Alonso should the former Liverpool midfielder opt for Bayern Munich over Anfield.
While Alonso is considered a front-runner for the Liverpool managerial role, Bayern Munich’s interest in the Bayer Leverkusen manager has muddled the situation. Speculation has surfaced suggesting Alonso might prefer a move to Bayern after Thomas Tuchel’s impending departure.
According to Miguel Delaney of the Independent, if Liverpool fails to secure Alonso’s services, they will turn their attention to Sporting boss Ruben Amorim. Described as the “most desirable candidate” in such a scenario, Amorim has earned praise for his work in rejuvenating Sporting, a club that had long been overshadowed by Benfica and Porto.
Amorim’s name has emerged ahead of other contenders like Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi. Despite Alonso’s strong candidacy, Liverpool are preparing for alternative options amid keen interest from multiple clubs.
Alonso’s impressive stint at Leverkusen, where he has overseen an unbeaten season and propelled the team to the top of the Bundesliga, has garnered widespread attention. However, major clubs like Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona are vying for his services.
The situation remains fluid, with indications from Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg suggesting that Alonso is leaning towards Bayern Munich over Liverpool. Plettenberg noted, “My understanding is that at this stage, Xabi Alonso is more willing to join Bayern Munich instead of joining Liverpool.
” However, both clubs have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring Alonso’s services, adding another layer of complexity to the managerial landscape.
