Liverpool have made adjustments to their Europa League squad ahead of their upcoming clash against Sparta Prague.
The Reds are gearing up for the last-16 encounter with Sparta, with the first leg scheduled for March 7 in the Czech Republic and the return leg set for March 14 at Anfield.
Jürgen Klopp has decided to omit Joel Matip from the squad, considering the defender’s season-ending ACL injury suffered in December. Matip, who featured in 14 matches across all competitions this season, including three Europa League fixtures, will not be available for selection.
Taking Matip’s place in the squad is Adrian, who has yet to make an appearance this season. With Alisson sidelined due to a hamstring injury, Klopp has opted to bolster the goalkeeping department by including Adrian in the Europa League squad.
Caoimhin Kelleher, who impressed in Liverpool’s recent Carabao Cup triumph against Chelsea, is expected to start between the posts against Sparta.
Reflecting on the upcoming challenge against Sparta Prague, Klopp emphasized the need for his side to be prepared for a tough test. He acknowledged Sparta’s impressive run in the competition, particularly their standout performance against Galatasaray in the previous round.
Klopp highlighted the strength of the Czech league and emphasized the importance of approaching the tie with the right mindset. Despite the focus on the immediate fixtures, Klopp expressed excitement for the prospect of another thrilling Europa League encounter against Sparta.
