In a match marked by an uneven performance against a resilient home team, Bayern Munich settled for a draw against SC Freiburg after overcoming an early setback.

The intensity and pressure displayed by Freiburg in the first half-hour of the game were particularly noteworthy, resulting in the opening goal after a string of promising opportunities. It was only later in the game that Bayern Munich began to demonstrate glimpses of their title-contending capabilities, albeit temporarily.

“We didn’t have a good first half-hour,” remarked Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel in his post-match interview with DAZN, as cited by @MiaSanMia. “We deserved to be trailing. However, we performed better in the second half and took control of the game, but unfortunately couldn’t capitalize on our opportunities.

Ultimately, we didn’t secure the win due to a fortunate goal from a set piece that we failed to defend.”

Tuchel expressed his disappointment with the team’s performance, acknowledging the need for a higher level of determination from the outset. “We aimed to approach the game with a different level of intensity.

However, it took conceding a goal for us to adopt that mindset. It was somewhat chaotic at times, and we made errors that we hadn’t encountered before,” he explained. “It wasn’t a lack of effort, but rather a reckless approach in the first half-hour. Despite equalizing with an individual effort, it wasn’t enough. One strong half isn’t sufficient to secure victory.”

When asked about what was lacking from the team’s performance, Tuchel remained uncertain. “What can I say? I don’t believe it was a matter of effort. I saw the determination from the players in the first half. However, our positional discipline was lacking.

There were instances where our defenders were caught out of position, which we hadn’t addressed previously,” he elaborated. “We launched attacks hastily as if we were trailing in the dying minutes of the game. It’s difficult to pinpoint the exact issue. In the end, repeating the same sentiments in different words doesn’t provide any new insights for the fans.”
