In a recent interview, Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister candidly discussed the Premier League opponent he finds most challenging to face. Speaking with Direct TV Sports, the 2022 World Cup winner admitted his disdain for going up against Tottenham Hotspur center-back Cristian Romero.

Mac Allister has made a notable impact in the Premier League since he arrived in England in 2019 from South American side Argentinos Juniors. Initially joining Brighton & Hove Albion, he later moved to Liverpool for a reported fee of €42 million following a standout 2022-23 season.

Throughout his time in the Premier League, the Argentine international has encountered numerous defenders. However, none have posed as much difficulty for him as his compatriot and Spurs defender Cristian Romero. Speaking to Direct TV Sports, Mac Allister shared, (via TBR Football):

“We had a few run-ins with Cuti Romero. He’s a real nuisance, very aggressive, and if you don’t stand up to him, he keeps coming at you, but we have a great relationship, and it makes it easier.”

A teammate of Mac Allister on the international stage, Romero has firmly established himself as a significant presence at Tottenham. The pair have faced each other five times in the English top-flight, with Romero emerging victorious on all but one occasion.

However, the dynamic shifts when they share the pitch wearing the white and blue shirts. Having played alongside each other 15 times, they have secured victory a remarkable 14 times.
