Liverpool’s already challenging situation has taken a dire turn as their injury list grows longer, with forward Diogo Jota sidelined for an indefinite period and midfielder Curtis Jones and goalkeeper Alisson facing uncertain return timelines.

Jota and Jones joined the injury ranks during the recent match against Brentford, exacerbating Liverpool’s woes, which already included nine senior players on the sidelines. This predicament is far from ideal as the club braces for the Carabao Cup final clash against Chelsea amidst their commitment to multiple competitions.

Addressing the mounting setbacks, manager Jürgen Klopp expressed concern, stating, “We have Diogo with a knee issue ruled out – it will obviously take months. Not available are Ali [Alisson], muscle injury – we don’t know how long it takes but it will take some time to come back – and Curtis with a bone/ligament issue is ruled out.”

The situation is further compounded by the absence of key players such as Thiago Alcântara, Stefan Bajcetic, and Joël Matip, who are grappling with their respective injuries. The cautionary substitution of Darwin Núñez during the Brentford match underscores the fragility of the squad.

With Jones unavailable, Liverpool faces decisions regarding midfield replacements, likely leading to a competition between Harvey Elliott and Ryan Gravenberch.

Alternatively, the team may consider deploying forward Cody Gakpo in a makeshift midfield role. Moreover, youngsters like James McConnell and Bobby Clark could be called upon to step up to the challenge despite their limited senior experience.

Though longer-term absentees like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai are progressing in their recovery, their return to full team training remains pending, further stretching Liverpool’s squad depth amidst their competitive campaign.
