Michael Lorenzen pitched for five innings without allowing any runs in his first game for Texas. Three other pitchers from the Rangers finished the game without giving up any runs, too. They beat the Detroit Tigers 1-0 on Monday night.
Lorenzen, who joined the team on a $4.5 million contract, didn’t give the Tigers any chance to score, despite facing his former teammates. He had a few good moments in the game.
“I enjoyed my time in Detroit. The guys there are great,” Lorenzen said. “But tonight, I wanted to focus on winning. I’ll catch up with them tomorrow.”
The right-handed pitcher had been recovering from a neck injury before joining the team. He played in a few games for Triple-A Round Rock to get back in shape.
“Tonight, Lorenzen showed why he’s a good pitcher. He stayed calm and made some crucial plays,” said Rangers manager Bruce Bochy. “Even when things got tough, he managed to handle the pressure.”
Jose Leclerc pitched for two innings, allowing only one player to get on base. David Robertson and Kirby Yates also played well to secure the win for Texas.
Jonah Heim’s double helped the Rangers score the only run of the game in the fifth inning. Despite some good chances, the Tigers couldn’t score any runs, thanks to the Rangers’ solid defense.
