Luis Campusano and Ha-Seong Kim each hit home runs with three runners on base, helping the San Diego Padres win 13-4 against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, splitting the opening four-game series.

In the first inning, Patrick Bailey’s passed ball brought in a run, and Manny Machado hit a double, bringing in another run. Campusano then hit a home run, adding three more runs. Later, Campusano hit a single to bring in another run, while Machado added three RBIs. Wearing camouflage uniforms for Military Sunday, the Padres had 16 hits compared to the Giants’ 5.

“Our entire lineup contributed to the win,” Padres manager Mike Shildt said. “I’m pleased with our strong start at the plate today.” Kim hit a home run in the second inning, extending the Padres’ lead to 9-0.

“It was crucial to bounce back after yesterday’s loss and secure a win today,” Kim said through an interpreter. “I believe we have a strong team and hope to continue this winning streak.”

The Padres scored four unearned runs in the first inning due to an error by shortstop Tyler Fitzgerald. “We have many players competing for playing time, especially in the lower part of the batting order,” said Xander Bogaerts. “Those players are hungry for success.”

Pedro Avila earned the win in relief of Michael King, who struggled with control issues, walking seven batters. King said, “I was struggling to find my rhythm. I’m grateful for the run support from the offense.”

Daulton Jeffries, making his first MLB appearance since May 2022, gave up nine runs, five of which were earned, in two innings. He underwent his second Tommy John surgery in September 2022, following his first surgery in April 2017.
