Starling Marte smacked his 150th career home run on Wednesday, propelling the New York Mets to a 9-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates, completing a three-game series sweep.
Marte, who played for the Pirates for the first eight seasons of his career, achieved this milestone with a two-run homer that sailed over the left-center field fence, giving the Mets a 2-1 lead in the third inning.
Later in the game, Tyrone Taylor delivered a two-run single in the sixth inning, followed by a home run from Harrison Bader on the very next pitch, extending the Mets’ lead. Brandon Nimmo’s two-run single in the eighth inning added to the Mets’ commanding victory.
This sweep marks the first time the Mets have swept a series at Citi Field since they won three consecutive games against the Philadelphia Phillies from May 30 to June 1, 2023.
