Starling Marte blasted a bases-loaded triple in the first inning and brought home four runs, while J.D. Martinez hit a homer for the second game in a row. The New York Mets managed to hold off the struggling Arizona Diamondbacks, winning 10-9 on Friday night.

Despite being down by five runs and facing their final out, the Diamondbacks made a late push with a three-run homer from Joc Pederson and a solo shot from Christian Walker. However, Mets pitcher Reed Garrett struck out Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to secure the victory.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza was pleased with his team’s performance, stating that they got the job done. Mark Vientos contributed with three singles and two RBIs, stepping up after the Mets made changes to their roster, including giving him the everyday role at third base.

This win marked the Mets’ first back-to-back victories since early May, a relief for the team after a rough stretch of losses.

A players-only meeting called by Francisco Lindor seemed to have made a positive impact, with outfielder Brandon Nimmo acknowledging the team’s effort in addressing their challenges.

Lindor continued his strong performance with two hits, including an RBI double, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. He has been providing energy for the team from the leadoff spot, creating a positive atmosphere in the clubhouse.

For the Diamondbacks, Eugenio Suárez reached a milestone with his 250th career homer, and Joc Pederson contributed with four RBIs. However, their efforts weren’t enough to avoid their fifth consecutive loss, leaving them seven games below .500.

Starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery expressed frustration with his performance, acknowledging the need to improve his pitching to support the team better.
