Bo Bichette runs to the bases

Toronto’s shortstop Bo Bichette exited the Blue Jays’ game against Detroit on Friday night after six innings due to a strained right calf.

Bichette, who has been named an All-Star twice and led the AL in hits twice, lined out to right field to end the sixth inning and sustained the injury while running to first base, visibly in discomfort. Leo Jimenez took over for Bichette at shortstop starting in the seventh inning.

This injury comes after Bichette returned from the injured list on June 24, having previously missed nine games due to discomfort in his right calf.

He had also experienced calf soreness on July 10 during a game against San Francisco, which caused him to sit out the final four games before the All-Star break.

During Friday’s game, Bichette managed to break up Jack Flaherty’s no-hit bid with a one-out single in the fifth inning. His season stats include a batting average of .222 with four home runs and 30 RBIs.
