Corey Seager, who has won the World Series MVP twice, has been selected to join the American League All-Star team in place of injured Minnesota shortstop Carlos Correa. This adds a third player from the host Texas Rangers to Tuesday night’s game lineup.
Correa missed Minnesota’s recent game due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot, as revealed by an MRI. Despite this, Correa plans to participate in the All-Star events in Arlington, Texas.
Seager, making his fifth All-Star appearance, will join Texas second baseman Marcus Semien and reliever Kirby Yates on the AL team managed by Rangers’ Bruce Bochy.
Semien will start at second base in place of Houston’s Jose Altuve, who is resting due to a sore left hand sustained from a recent hit by a pitch.
Seager has a batting average of .270 with 18 home runs and 48 RBIs. Since signing a $325 million, 10-year contract with the Rangers after the 2021 season, he has been selected as an All-Star in each of his three seasons with the team.
