Infielder J.D. Davis was released by the New York Yankees on Friday after batting .105 with one RBI in 22 plate appearances across seven games.
The 31-year-old was brought in from Oakland on June 23 in exchange for minor league infielder Jordan Groshans. He made six starts for the Yankees, including four at first base and two as the designated hitter.
Davis had a .232 average with four home runs and five RBIs in 135 plate appearances with the Athletics, who had signed him in mid-March. Last winter, he won an arbitration case against San Francisco and was given a $6.9 million salary under a non-guaranteed contract.
He was then released by the Giants during spring training and received $1,112,903 in termination pay.
He signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the A’s. As part of the trade, the A’s agreed to pay the Yankees $927,312 on October 11. The Yankees then designated Davis for assignment on Sunday.
Additionally, New York sent infielder/outfielder Jahmai Jones outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Jones had a .238 average with one home run and four RBIs in 47 plate appearances over 33 games.
