Jake Cave celebrates after the win

Jake Cave’s three-run home run in the eighth inning lifted the Colorado Rockies to a 7-3 win over the San Francisco Giants on Friday night.

Cave, who also doubled as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning, contributed to a powerful offensive display by the Rockies. Brenton Doyle and Ezequiel Tovar also hit home runs in the game, continuing Colorado’s trend of hitting 15 home runs in their last four games.

“Our lineup is performing well from top to bottom,” Cave remarked. “Players like Michael Toglia, who’s hitting homers frequently, are really making an impact. We aim to challenge and upset strong teams.”

Cave’s homer, a 410-foot shot to right field off Ty Rogers (1-3), was his third home run in the last 10 games, a sharp contrast to going without one in his first 66 games this season.

“I felt good about that hit,” Cave reflected. “I had seen enough of his pitches from earlier at-bats, including his fastball and slider from a low submarine angle. I was fortunate to connect well with the ball when he left it in a hittable spot.”

Tyler Rogers pitches in the 8th inning

Doyle contributed a 434-foot home run in the sixth inning, marking his fifth in the past seven games and his 10th since June 28.

Tovar added a solo homer in the eighth inning to cap off the Rockies’ scoring for the night, bringing his total to three homers in the last two games.

“Tovar stuck to his routine and didn’t let the pressure get to him,” Rockies manager Bud Black praised. “For a second-year player, that resilience and confidence are impressive. It’s great to see him bounce back like that.”

Jalen Beeks (6-4) pitched 1 1/3 perfect innings in relief to earn the win, while Rogers struggled, allowing three earned runs in just a third of an inning for the Giants.

“It was unexpected for us to give up runs like that,” Giants manager Bob Melvin admitted. “Credit to them for putting together quality at-bats and scoring against our strong relievers.”
