Oneil Cruz leaves with the manager in the 7th inning

Pittsburgh Pirates designated hitter Andrew McCutchen and shortstop Oneil Cruz both got hurt while running the bases and were taken out of the game in the seventh inning on Friday night against the Seattle Mariners.

McCutchen hit a single to left field with one out and began limping as he reached first base. Ji Hwan Bae replaced McCutchen as a pinch runner. McCutchen had extended his hitting streak to a season-high 11 games.

Oneil Cruz watches his single in the 5th inning

A couple of batters later, Oneil Cruz hit a two-run double to right field and stumbled while rounding second base. Jared Triolo came in to run for Cruz.

McCutchen was found to have left knee discomfort, and Cruz had left ankle discomfort.

Cruz’s double put the Pirates ahead 5-2 as they tried to end a 10-game losing streak.
