Paul Blackburn stays down after getting hit

The New York Mets put right-hander Paul Blackburn on the 15-day injured list on Sunday, just two days after he was struck on his pitching hand by a line drive from San Diego’s David Peralta.

The move is retroactive to Saturday and follows a long toss session on Sunday morning that Blackburn described as “wasn’t great.” He mentioned that his hand still has some tenderness and swelling, though X-rays and a CT scan were negative.

Blackburn (5-4, 4.66 ERA) had to leave the game in the third inning of a 7-0 loss on Friday night. He tried to protect his face with his arm when he was hit by the line drive, which then deflected to second baseman Jose Iglesias, who threw out Peralta.

To fill Blackburn’s spot on the roster, Huascar Brazobán (1-3, 3.76) was called up from Triple-A Syracuse.
