Sevilla defender and former Real Madrid stalwart Sergio Ramos expressed his gratitude to Los Blancos fans following his team’s 1-0 defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu on Monday night (February 26).
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the Spanish football icon acknowledged the support received during the La Liga encounter.
Ramos tweeted:
“An unfortunate result because the team gave everything. We have to keep working like this and remain determined and united. Thank you, Bernabéu, for the love received. Touched, proud, and grateful.”
The loss was a bitter pill to swallow for Sevilla after a hard-fought battle against the league leaders. Despite a resilient performance, Sevilla’s goalkeeper Orjan Nyland was eventually beaten in the 81st minute by a spectacular long-range strike from Luka Modrić, securing a narrow 1-0 victory for Real Madrid.
Ramos, who began his illustrious career at Sevilla before joining Real Madrid in 2005, remains a cherished figure at the club. During his 16-year tenure with Los Blancos, he amassed an impressive record of 671 appearances across various competitions, scoring 101 goals and providing 40 assists.
His contributions helped Real Madrid claim numerous titles, including four Champions League trophies, five La Liga titles, and two Copa del Rey victories.
After departing Real Madrid in 2021, Ramos had a brief stint with Paris Saint-Germain before returning to his hometown club Sevilla last summer. In the current season, he has made 25 appearances, scoring five goals and contributing one assist.
