Jalen Green showcased his prowess with 27 points, highlighted by two emphatic dunks in the third quarter, propelling the Houston Rockets to a 123-107 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night.

Fred VanVleet contributed 18 points and 10 assists for the Rockets, who rebounded from four losses in their last six games, including a defeat to the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night. Alperen Sengun also made a significant impact with 19 points.

Meanwhile, Dalano Banton shone for the Trail Blazers, registering a career-high 30 points despite their third consecutive loss.

Green expressed the impact of his electrifying dunks, stating, “It’s a big energy booster. The team, with our sidelines standing there yelling, I just get chills in the body… It just changes the whole atmosphere.”

Although Portland initially led by 12 points, Houston surged ahead in the third quarter, extending their lead to 99-88 on Jock Landale’s 3-pointer with 8:45 remaining. The Rockets maintained their momentum, eventually leading by 18 points as the game concluded.

Rockets coach Ime Udoka commended his team’s response to his halftime challenge, emphasizing their improved defensive effort. He said, “I love the way they came out and responded to the challenge… Used the defense to ignite our game in general.”

The Blazers faced challenges due to injuries, with key players like DeAndre Ayton, Scoot Henderson, and Malcolm Brogdon sidelined. Additionally, Jerami Grant and Jabari Walker were unavailable due to injuries, although Toumani Camara returned after missing the previous game due to illness.

Blazers coach Chauncey Billups expressed frustration over the team’s situation, highlighting the opportunities for young players while lamenting the loss of chemistry with the starters.

Despite Portland’s strong start, Houston fought back, tying the game in the second quarter before briefly taking the lead. However, the Blazers held a slim advantage of 63-55 at halftime.

Green’s impactful dunks in the third quarter shifted momentum in Houston’s favor, with the Rockets closing the gap and eventually taking the lead.

The victory marked the second encounter between the two teams, with the Blazers having won the first matchup in January.
