Nelly Korda Secures Fifth Consecutive LPGA Major Victory with Chevron Triumph

In a stunning display of dominance, world No. 1 Nelly Korda triumphed at the Chevron Championship, sealing her fifth consecutive LPGA major title with a final-round 69 at the Club at Carlton Woods. Her victory, marked by a two-shot lead, not only secured the first LPGA major of the year but also extended her unparalleled winning streak in the sport.

At just 25 years old, Korda’s achievement echoes the likes of Annika Sorenstam in 2004-2005 and Nancy Lopez in 1978, making her the first since Sorenstam to claim a major as her fifth consecutive win.

“It feels like a weight off my shoulders,” she expressed, moments before her celebratory leap into a greenside pond. “That back nine felt like an eternity.”

Despite her typically fast-paced game, Korda faced a challenging Sunday, with the pressure mounting as her comfortable four-shot lead dwindled to just one. Yet, with nerves of steel, she maintained her composure, securing victory with a crucial birdie on the final hole.

Reflecting on her success, Korda emphasized the importance of simplicity in her approach to the game. “There’s beauty in simplicity,” she remarked, a sentiment echoed by her 13th LPGA Tour title, fittingly secured at the Chevron Championship.

Korda’s remarkable run began in late January with her victory at the LPGA Drive On Championship, followed by a triumphant three-week spree in California, Arizona, and Nevada. Despite a brief respite, she remained focused on the opportunity to add another major to her resume, building on her 2021 Women’s PGA Championship win.

With little time to rest, Korda now sets her sights on the JM Eagle LA Championship at Wilshire Country Club, fueled by the prospect of a record-breaking sixth consecutive victory.
