According to SNY’s Connor Hughes, the New York Giants are evidently eyeing a quarterback in this year’s NFL draft, with a potential inclination towards trading up to secure one.
Hughes pointed out that at the NFL Combine, it’s hardly a secret that the Giants are keen on snagging a quarterback in the upcoming draft, and they might be open to trading up to ensure they get their desired pick. However, the big question remains: will there be a viable option available for them to pursue?
Currently holding the No. 6 pick in the draft, the Giants face the likelihood of quarterbacks being selected within the first three picks. This scenario could prompt New York to make strategic moves to contend for top prospects like Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, or Jayden Daniels.

Yet, Hughes suggested that even if the Giants miss out on the top three, they could still secure a promising quarterback, with Bo Nix or Michael Penix Jr. being potential candidates.
In Bleacher Report’s 2024 NFL Mock Draft, Williams, Maye, and Daniels are projected to be picked consecutively by the Chicago Bears, Washington Commanders, and New England Patriots. This implies that the Giants might need to offer a substantial deal to enter the fray for one of the premier quarterbacks.
However, Nix and Penix present credible alternatives if New York is hesitant about sacrificing too much by trading up.
Penix, the Heisman runner-up, is ranked as the fifth quarterback and the No. 66 player on Bleacher Report’s NFL Draft Big Board. His impressive stats from last season include 4,903 passing yards, 36 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions while playing for Washington.
Nix, also a Heisman finalist, ranks as the sixth quarterback and the No. 70 player on Bleacher Report’s Big Board. He showcased his skills with 4,508 passing yards and 45 touchdowns during his tenure with Oregon last year.
Furthermore, Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy emerges as another potential choice for the Giants. McCarthy, positioned as the fourth quarterback and the No. 55 player on Bleacher Report’s Big Board, contributed significantly to his team’s national championship campaign, amassing 2,991 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2023.
While the option to bolster the receiving corps to support incumbent quarterback Daniel Jones is plausible, securing a backup isn’t a bad idea, considering the position’s historical inconsistency.
