Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson recently opened up about missing part of the offseason program due to an aggravation of his surgically repaired right shoulder. While the injury caused some concern from the team’s medical staff, Richardson himself downplayed the situation, expressing eagerness to get back on the field.
He admitted that he was ready to go sooner but had to follow medical advice to ensure a full recovery and proper preparation for the season ahead.
Richardson Returns to Full Practice, Begins Quarterback Battle with Daniel Jones Strongly
Richardson has since returned to full participation in practice without any restrictions. Despite his clearance, Colts General Manager Chris Ballard noted the team may still limit the number of throws Richardson makes to avoid overworking the shoulder. Richardson has been throwing for several weeks now and feels like he’s on a normal schedule, which bodes well for his development and readiness heading into training camp.

Richardson is now in a competitive battle with fellow quarterback Daniel Jones for the starting job in Indianapolis. During Day 1 of team drills, neither quarterback stood out significantly. Richardson completed just 4 of 11 passes, although multiple incompletions were due to dropped passes. On the other hand, Jones went 6-for-8 but threw an interception, making the competition fairly even early on.
Richardson Feels the Love as Colts Fans Rally Behind Their Young Quarterback
Despite the mixed performance in practice, Richardson received strong support from the Colts fan base during training camp. His presence on the field was met with enthusiasm, a reflection of the city’s high hopes for the young quarterback. The crowd’s energy suggests fans are fully behind him as he works to earn and solidify his role as a franchise player.
Richardson expressed gratitude for the support he’s received and acknowledged the responsibility that comes with being a team leader. He emphasized his commitment to doing whatever it takes to meet the expectations of both the organization and its fans. As the season approaches, Richardson appears focused, motivated, and determined to become the quarterback Indianapolis both wants and needs.
