The Denver Broncos and defensive lineman Zach Allen have agreed to a lucrative four-year contract extension worth $102 million. This marks Allen’s third NFL contract and signals the team’s commitment to rewarding standout talent.
The deal is structured to keep Allen with the team through the prime of his career, as he turns 28 this month. His extension ensures that he avoids hitting free agency in 2026 when he would have turned 30, a crucial factor in maximizing his earning potential.
Escalating Salaries and Guarantees Secure Allen’s Financial Future Through 2029 Contract Structure
The contract includes a $24 million signing bonus and a 2025 base salary of $2.49 million, both fully guaranteed. In addition, Allen is eligible for $510,000 in per-game roster bonuses in 2025, also fully guaranteed but performance-based. His 2026 compensation includes a fully guaranteed base salary of $16.485 million, plus $765,000 in per-game roster bonuses under the same conditions.

By 2027, Allen’s contract becomes more complex and lucrative. He will receive a $22.235 million base salary, initially guaranteed only for injury, with portions becoming fully guaranteed over time. Similar provisions apply to the $21.735 million base salary in 2028 and $24.480 million in 2029.
Per-game roster bonuses also continue to increase, topping out at $1.02 million in 2029. Altogether, $44.25 million is fully guaranteed at signing, with a practical guarantee of $60 million and $69.5 million becoming fully guaranteed by the third year.
Strategic Deal Positions Broncos for Success While Rewarding Allen’s Peak Performance Window
Allen’s $25.5 million average per year (APY) makes it the highest among defensive tackles who signed actual contract extensions, excluding unique cases like Aaron Donald’s deal. The timing of the contract is particularly favorable for Allen, allowing him to avoid the franchise tag and giving him long-term financial security while he’s still performing at a high level. This timing strategically benefits both the player and the team.
From a team-building perspective, this extension demonstrates the Broncos’ proactive approach to securing core talent. It reflects a broader organizational philosophy of rewarding performance and maintaining roster stability qualities often seen in successful franchises. By locking in a high-impact player like Allen early, the Broncos show they are serious about building a contender and avoiding the pitfalls of reactive personnel management.
