The Cleveland Browns are bringing back quarterback Tyler Huntley to address a growing need at the position, as several of their current quarterbacks are dealing with injuries. Huntley’s signing adds insurance behind veteran Joe Flacco, the only healthy quarterback in the group. Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders have all recently missed practice time due to various injuries.
Pickett has been limited since injuring his hamstring on July 26, while Gabriel is also dealing with hamstring tightness and participated only in a limited capacity on Monday. Sanders, who sat out of team drills over the weekend due to arm soreness, returned to full participation this week. These setbacks have complicated the Browns’ quarterback competition, making Huntley’s experience a valuable asset.

Huntley Returns as Browns Finalize Preseason Plans Amid Ongoing Quarterback Uncertainty
The Browns are preparing for joint practices with the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte on Wednesday, followed by their preseason opener on Friday. Head coach Kevin Stefanski noted that the team is still finalizing plans for both the practices and the preseason game. With so much uncertainty surrounding the quarterback situation, Huntley could see significant reps in both settings.
Huntley, 27, is no stranger to Cleveland, having previously spent time with the team during last year’s training camp. Although he made the initial 53-man roster, he was released after a trade fell through. He later joined the Miami Dolphins, where he started five games and went 2-3. Meanwhile, starting quarterback Deshaun Watson remains out while recovering from an Achilles injury expected to keep him sidelined for most of the 2025 season.
