Devin Fitzgerald, a three-star wide receiver and the son of NFL Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald, officially committed to Notre Dame on Saturday. The standout from Brophy College Preparatory in Phoenix, Arizona, chose the Fighting Irish over notable programs such as Clemson, Stanford, and UCLA.
Fitzgerald becomes a key addition to Notre Dame’s 2026 recruiting class, which is currently ranked fourth in the nation behind USC, Georgia, and Texas A&M.
Fitzgerald Chooses Notre Dame for Culture, Purpose, and Long-Term Personal Growth
In his commitment announcement, Fitzgerald emphasized that his decision was about more than just football. “I chose Notre Dame because of the people, the culture, and the purpose behind everything they do,” he told 247Sports.
He expressed admiration for the school’s broader mission, highlighting a desire to build not just a football career, but a legacy and future off the field. This perspective reflects the holistic approach Notre Dame promotes within its athletic and academic programs.

Fitzgerald’s junior year performance highlighted his skills as a dynamic and dependable receiver. He tallied 52 receptions for 720 yards and nine touchdowns over 13 games, proving to be both consistent and explosive on the field. His strong showing drew significant attention, placing him among the top prospects in the state. Combined with his NFL lineage, Fitzgerald’s production makes him a highly anticipated addition to the Fighting Irish roster.
Fitzgerald Joins Deep, Talented Class as Notre Dame Rises in 2026 Rankings
With Fitzgerald’s commitment, Notre Dame now boasts 24 recruits in its 2026 class. He is currently ranked as the No. 2 player in Arizona and the 55th-ranked wide receiver in the nation.
He joins a group of elite recruits that includes five-star edge Rodney Dunham, five-star safety Joey O’Brien, four-star cornerback Khary Adams, and four-star tight end Ian Premer. The talent and depth of the class have already propelled Notre Dame to the No. 2 spot in national rankings, following Premer’s commitment.
Notre Dame’s recruiting momentum has surged in recent weeks, with eight new commitments added to the 2026 class since early last month. Fitzgerald’s remarks further highlight what sets Notre Dame apart — its strong sense of community and shared goals among recruits.
“The recruits I met were like-minded,” Fitzgerald said. “I knew being around them would push me to be better, both on and off the field.” His decision underscores Notre Dame’s growing appeal as a destination for players who value both athletic excellence and personal development.
