JuJu Smith-Schuster is rejoining the Kansas City Chiefs on a one-year contract, according to ESPN and multiple reports. The 28-year-old wide receiver previously played for the Chiefs in 2024, appearing in 14 games and recording 18 receptions for 231 yards and two touchdowns. His standout performance of the season came in Week 5 against the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football, where he caught seven passes for 130 yards.
Smith-Schuster was a key contributor to the Chiefs’ 2022 Super Bowl-winning team, leading the wide receiver corps with 78 receptions for 933 yards. Following that successful season, he departed as a free agent and signed with the New England Patriots for the 2023 season. However, his production declined in New England, as he managed only 29 catches for 260 yards and one touchdown in 11 games.

Smith-Schuster Returns to Chiefs, Aims to Reignite Career with Mahomes’ Offense
His tenure with the Patriots was short-lived, as he was released during training camp in the summer of 2024. This led to his return to Kansas City, where he will look to revitalize his career and contribute to the Chiefs’ offense once again. With his prior experience in the system and familiarity with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Smith-Schuster could play an important role in the upcoming season.
Originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Smith-Schuster spent five seasons in Pittsburgh. His best year came in 2018, when he caught 111 passes for 1,426 yards. Over his eight-year NFL career, he has accumulated 448 receptions for 5,279 yards and 33 touchdowns, proving to be a reliable target in multiple offenses.
