Coach Glenn Updates on Boyd’s Recovery, Highlights Family Support and Positive Outlook

Jets coach Aaron Glenn confirmed he had spoken with Boyd and said the player appeared “upbeat” during their conversation. The shooting occurred just after 2 a.m. Sunday near Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was shot in the abdomen and taken to Bellevue Hospital. Police released surveillance images of a suspect, and the motive remains under investigation. Authorities have not confirmed whether Boyd was specifically targeted, and no other injuries were reported.

Boyd Remains Team-Active Despite Injury, Continuing Valuable Contributions On And Off Field

Boyd has not played this season due to a shoulder injury sustained in August that required surgery. Despite this, he has remained actively involved with the team, attending games and supporting teammates. Coach Glenn highlighted Boyd’s ongoing contributions to the team and his status as one of the league’s top special teams players.

A Texas native, Boyd began his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings after being drafted in 2019. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals and Houston’s practice squad before signing a one-year, $1.6 million contract with the Jets in March 2025. Boyd’s signing was expected to strengthen New York’s special teams unit under Glenn and coordinator Chris Banjo.
