The dispute surrounding Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and allegations of sexual assault will unfold both in civil court and the criminal justice system.

According to the Dallas Morning News, authorities in Dallas are examining the allegations of sexual assault against Prescott, as well as Prescott’s claim that he is a victim of extortion orchestrated by the accuser and her legal team.

The alleged incident took place on February 2, 2017, in the parking lot of XTC Cabaret, a strip club in Dallas. The report was filed on Tuesday, just a day after Prescott initiated a lawsuit against the accuser and her attorneys.

Meanwhile, officials in Prosper, Texas are investigating Prescott’s assertion of being targeted in an extortion scheme related to the sexual assault accusation.

An attorney representing Prescott met with Prosper police last week, although specifics of the meeting were not disclosed due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.

Attorney Yoel Zehaie indicated to PFT on Tuesday that the accuser plans to file a counterclaim against Prescott, suggesting that civil actions are not restricted by any applicable statute of limitations.

Zehaie commented on Prescott’s evolving statements regarding the incident, noting inconsistencies in his narrative. The legal proceedings, whether criminal or civil, will be subject to different standards of proof and statutes of limitations. Despite potential limitations in pursuing civil claims related to the assault, the criminal statute of limitations might offer an extended timeframe for bringing charges.
