Green Bay Packers right tackle Zach Tom has signed a four-year, $88 million contract extension, including a record-setting $30.2 million signing bonus for an offensive lineman. This development marks a significant shift from just a month ago, when Tom was reluctant to discuss contract negotiations.
With this new deal, Tom joins the ranks of the NFL’s highest-paid linemen, surpassing notable names such as Laremy Tunsil and former Packers standout David Bakhtiari, both of whom previously held the record for the largest signing bonus at $30 million.
Tom’s Team-First Mentality and Versatility Solidify His Role on Packers’ Line
Despite his looming contract situation, Tom participated fully in the Packers’ offseason workout program. He emphasized the importance of being with his teammates over holding out for a new deal. “I’m just trying to do what’s best for the team,” Tom said last month, underscoring his dedication to team chemistry and readiness.
His approach reflected a mature and team-oriented mindset, focusing on long-term performance rather than short-term contract leverage.

With the Packers experiencing ongoing shifts along the offensive line, Tom’s extension brings stability to the right tackle position. Head coach Matt LaFleur praised Tom’s versatility, noting his ability to play all five offensive line positions.
While Tom has found a home at right tackle, his adaptability and football intelligence make him a unique asset for the team. This extension solidifies the Packers’ commitment to keeping him in that pivotal role moving forward.
Tom’s Versatility and Leadership Anchor a Packers Offensive Line in Major Transition
Tom, a fourth-round pick in 2022, has demonstrated consistency and durability, starting all games in his first two seasons. He’s tallied 39 total starts—34 at right tackle, four at left tackle, and one at left guard—showcasing his flexibility across the line.
His standout performance earned him third place in All-Pro voting last season among right tackles, trailing only Penei Sewell and Lane Johnson, further justifying the investment the Packers have made in him.
Beyond Tom’s contract, the Packers are undergoing broader changes along the offensive line. Elgton Jenkins is shifting from left guard to center to accommodate the new free agent addition, Aaron Banks, who is expected to take over at left guard. However, Jenkins has been placed on the non-football injury list and is reportedly seeking a contract revision despite having two years remaining on his current deal.
At the same time, a competition is heating up at left tackle between incumbent Rasheed Walker and first-round rookie Jordan Morgan. In the midst of this reshuffling, Tom’s locked-in role and steady leadership will be crucial to stabilizing and strengthening the revamped offensive line.
