Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison has been suspended for the first three games of the 2025 NFL season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. The announcement came Tuesday, dealing a significant blow to the Vikings’ offense as they prepare for the new season. Addison will miss matchups against the Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, and Cincinnati Bengals, key early-season games for the team.
Consecutive Off-Field Incidents Raise Concerns About Addison’s Judgment and NFL Conduct Violations
The suspension follows Addison’s legal issues stemming from a July 2024 DUI arrest. He was found asleep at the wheel of a white Rolls-Royce that was obstructing traffic near Los Angeles International Airport. Tests showed he had a blood alcohol concentration of at least .08%. He later pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of “wet reckless” driving, which involves alcohol use and made him subject to NFL discipline.

This wasn’t Addison’s first encounter with law enforcement. In July 2023, he was cited for driving 140 mph on a Minnesota freeway. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor speeding charge, while a reckless driving charge was dismissed. Although both incidents were separate, together they paint a concerning pattern of off-field behavior that may raise red flags for the team and league.
Addison Eligible for Camp, Will Return Week 4 as Vikings Adjust Offense
As part of the DUI plea deal, Addison agreed to a $390 fine and 12 months of probation, which could be shortened if he completes two online educational courses. Despite the suspension, he remains eligible to participate fully in training camp and preseason games. He will be reinstated for the Vikings’ Week 4 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, which is set to be played in Dublin.
Addison, a 2023 first-round pick, has been a strong contributor for the Vikings, posting 133 receptions, 1,786 yards, and 19 touchdowns in two seasons. With his absence, the team will likely rely on Jalen Nailor, who started seven games in 2024, to step up in the No. 2 receiver role. The Vikings will need Nailor and the rest of the receiving corps to fill the void as they aim for a strong season start.
