Lucas Raymond and Dylan Larkin both scored in a shootout, leading the Detroit Red Wings to a 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers in Edmonton on Thursday night.
Alex Lyon stopped 45 shots and blocked Connor McDavid in the shootout, while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins missed the game-ending shot for Edmonton.
Michael Rasmussen and Larkin scored in regulation for the Red Wings, who earned their fourth straight win. Leon Draisaitl and Jeff Skinner scored for the Oilers, whose three-game winning streak ended. Stuart Skinner made 32 saves for Edmonton.
Detroit tied the game 2-2 in the second period with two goals. Rasmussen tipped Jonatan Berggren’s shot into the net at 9:59. Larkin followed with a goal 8:14 later, sweeping in from the right wing and beating Skinner.
Draisaitl put the Oilers ahead 1-0 with a power-play goal 6:49 into the game, firing a one-timer past Lyon after a puck bounced over the stick of Detroit’s Ben Chiarot. Skinner made it 2-0 with 9:31 left in the first period, sliding the puck into an empty net.
Defenseman John Klingberg made his season debut for the Oilers after recovering from hip surgeries. He played 16:39, registering one shot, one giveaway, and a minus-1 rating.
Vladimir Tarasenko returned for the Red Wings after missing a game due to illness and played in his 800th career game.
McDavid and Oilers defenseman Mattias Ekholm were named alternate captains for their respective countries in the 4 Nations Face-Off, set to take place from Feb. 12-20 in Montreal and Boston.
