During Browns General Manager Andrew Berry’s press conference on Thursday, he provided updates on two key offensive players recovering from injuries.
Berry mentioned that the team anticipates quarterback Deshaun Watson returning for the start of the season following his right shoulder injury. However, Berry was more cautious when discussing running back Nick Chubb’s recovery timeline.
Chubb suffered knee ligament tears in Week Two of last season and underwent multiple surgeries. Berry stated that Chubb’s rehabilitation process is progressing well as the season approaches.
“He’s been very proactive in his approach, especially since last fall,” Berry said. “He’s moving forward at a good pace.
Although it’s still early, he recently began running on land. It’s not to say he’s fully recovered, but he’s doing everything possible to progress appropriately. The next few weeks and months will be crucial as we gradually increase the workload on his knee during training.”
Chubb agreed to adjust his base salary to avoid potential release this offseason and has the opportunity to earn incentives based on performance. How he responds to the increased workload on his knee will determine his chances of achieving those incentives.
