Could Thunder-Celtics be a preview of the NBA Finals?

NBA insiders reported that the Oklahoma City Thunder emerged victorious over the Boston Celtics with a score of 118-112 in a highly anticipated matchup between two top contenders for the NBA Finals on Wednesday.

Led by Chet HolmgrenS impressive double-double performance of 23 points and 15 rebounds, along with MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s 34 points, the Thunder, who currently lead the Western Conference, have now defeated Boston twice this season and boast an impressive record of 22-1 against Eastern Conference teams.

Despite Jayson Tatum’s strong showing with 33 points for Boston, the Celtics struggled in the latter part of the game as they failed to capitalize on their record-tying 63-point attempts from beyond the arc in a non-overtime game. The Thunder capitalized on this possibility by finishing strong with a 20-14 run to secure their victory as Boston faltered in their three-point shooting.

The game at TD Garden highlighted both teams’ elite qualities such as tough defense from the Thunder and prolific three-point shooting from the Celtics. NBA analysts Tim Bontemps, Zach kram, and Brian Windhorst analyzed OKC’s win, its implications for both teams, and what can be expected from these powerhouse teams during playoffs and beyond.Bontemps emphasized that Oklahoma City should be considered a major threat to Boston’s championship aspirations based on their recent performances against them. Despite being one of the youngest teams in the league under coach Mark Daigneault, OKC has proven its depth and versatility through key players like Gilgeous-Alexander and Holmgren.

Windhorst pointed out various takeaways from OKC’s win including Holmgren’s ability under pressure and defensive prowess. He also highlighted some offensive challenges faced by OKC which could impact their playoff run if not addressed effectively.

Kram noted how both teams showcased contrasting styles during their matchups with an emphasis on three-point shooting by Boston countered by solid defense from OKC. He also discussed potential strategies for future matchups involving key players like Kristaps Porzingis who could impact outcomes substantially.

Looking ahead to each team’s playoff runs, Bontemps stressed that health would be crucial for Boston while Windhorst analyzed OKC’s defensive strengths versus offensive challenges. Kram predicted smooth sailing for Boston in reaching conference finals but acknowledged tougher competition awaiting OKC in Western Conference playoffs due to its depth.

In terms of long-term outlooks over five years, Bontemps favored Oklahoma City due to its young core players and draft picks compared to uncertainties surrounding financial constraints faced by Boston amid ownership changes. Windhorst echoed similar concerns about financial stability impacting Celtics’ future success despite current profitability levels.

Discussing a potential Finals matchup between Celtics-Thunder elicited excitement among analysts who envisioned an intriguing battle between two well-matched teams boasting different strengths yet aiming for ultimate success on basketball’s biggest stage.

Packers Lock In Kicker Stability, Sign Brandon McManus to Three-Year Deal

Signing a kicker may not be the flashiest move in the NFL, but for teams like the Green Bay Packers, having a dependable player in this position can be a game-changer. The Packers have a long history of strong kickers, from Ryan Longwell to Mason Crosby, both of whom provided consistency through different quarterback eras. Their ability to deliver in high-pressure situations made them invaluable assets to the team.

After Crosby’s departure, Green Bay struggled to find a suitable replacement. The team initially drafted Anders Carlson and later traded for Brayden Narveson, but neither delivered the reliability they sought. To address this issue, the Packers brought in veteran kicker Brandon McManus in October, replacing Narveson. Despite some off-field concerns, McManus had built an impressive 10-year NFL career, making him a strong candidate for the role.

McManus Delivers Consistency, Earns Three-Year Deal as Packers’ Reliable Kicker

In the 2024 season, McManus lived up to expectations, proving to be exactly what the Packers needed. His ability to perform under pressure was evident, as he made 20 of 21 field goal attempts and converted all 30 extra points in his 11 regular-season games with Green Bay. His accuracy and consistency helped solidify the team’s special teams unit, providing much-needed stability in a crucial phase of the game.

Recognizing his contributions, the Packers rewarded McManus with a new three-year contract worth $15.3 million, ensuring continuity at the position. This marks the first time since Crosby’s tenure that Green Bay has retained the same kicker for consecutive seasons. With Crosby recently announcing his retirement, McManus’s role becomes even more critical as the Packers look ahead to the 2025 season, emphasizing the importance of having a reliable kicker for sustained success.

The Atlanta Falcons quickly signed Floyd to a one-year, $10 million contract, addressing their need for a proven pass-rusher. While concerns exist about his age and a slight decline in production, Floyd has remained consistent, recording at least 8.5 sacks in each of the past five seasons. DeAndre Hopkins’ old social media post gains attention for a great reason

DeAndre Hopkins made a move from one Super Bowl contender to another by signing with the Baltimore Ravens, and he is excited about the potential of his new team. A social media post from Hopkins in 2020 resurfaced after the news of his deal with the Ravens, showing him alongside Lamar Jackson and Derrick henry.

In the post, Hopkins posed a question about what could happen when he shared the photo. At that time, Henry was still playing for the Tennessee Titans and had an impressive season with over 1,500 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. Jackson had just won his first NFL MVP award after a stellar season passing and running.

Hopkins was also performing at a high level with over 1,000 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in his previous season with the Houston Texans. He had also been teammates with Henry in Tennessee in 2023.

While there are concerns about Hopkins slowing down, Jackson had a career-best season throwing for over 4,000 yards and 44 touchdown passes. Henry also had an outstanding first year with the Ravens accumulating nearly 2,000 rushing yards and scoring 18 total touchdowns.

If this trio can stay healthy in 2025, there is great potential for success in Baltimore with plenty of touchdowns to be scored by Hopkins, Henry, and Jackson.

Cowboys Trade for Kaiir Elam and Kenneth Murray, Bolstering Defense with Former First-Round Picks

The Dallas Cowboys are making significant moves to reinforce their defense by acquiring two former first-round picks. According to reports from NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, the Cowboys have traded for cornerback Kaiir Elam from the Buffalo Bills and linebacker Kenneth Murray from the Tennessee Titans. These moves aim to add depth and talent to key defensive positions, addressing concerns that have plagued the team in recent seasons.

Cowboys Acquire Elam and Murray to Strengthen Defense with Experienced Talent

To acquire Kaiir Elam, the Cowboys are sending a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2026 seventh-round pick to the Bills. In return, they receive Elam along with a 2025 sixth-round pick.

Buffalo officially confirmed the deal after Pelissero’s report. Meanwhile, Dallas is swapping late-round draft picks with Tennessee in the trade for Murray, signaling their intent to build a stronger defensive unit with experienced players.

Kenneth Murray, originally drafted 23rd overall by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2020, has proven to be a productive linebacker in his four-year career. After moving to the Titans, he recorded 95 tackles in 14 starts last season. Over his career, he has amassed 416 tackles, 8.5 sacks, and 12 pass breakups.

His arrival in Dallas adds much-needed stability to the Cowboys’ linebacker corps, bringing experience and physicality to their defensive front.

Elam and Murray Seek Redemption in Crucial Seasons with the Cowboys

Kaiir Elam, a first-round pick in 2022, struggled to secure a full-time starting role in Buffalo. Despite making 12 starts over three seasons, an injury-shortened 2023 campaign limited his impact. However, Pro Football Focus ranked him among the top 50 cornerbacks in 2024, showcasing his potential.

With Dallas dealing with injuries in their secondary, Elam will have an opportunity to prove himself as a reliable cornerback and compete for a starting role.

Both players enter crucial seasons in their careers. Given Elam’s limited usage in Buffalo, the Bills were unlikely to pick up his fifth-year option, making 2025 a pivotal year for him in Dallas.

Similarly, Murray is looking to solidify his place as a dependable linebacker after moving between teams. With these additions, the Cowboys are bolstering their defense with experienced talent, hoping to improve their overall performance in the upcoming season.
