Sounders Complete Their Roster Ahead Of The Preseason Tournament In Seattle

The Seattle Sounders return from the offseason ready for a big year ahead.

“I really like where we’re at,” said General Manager and Chief Soccer Officer Craig Waibel. “And I really like that we could have a skill set of players that make each Starting XI a difficult conversation for our coaches to have.”

Seattle ended 2024 as a strong contender, reaching the Leagues Cup Quarterfinal, the U.S. Open Cup Semifinal, and the Western Conference Final. With most of the squad returning for 2025, the goal is to build on last year’s determination and unity, while aiming for even more success in all competitions.

“We were so close last year, and so there’s a lot of things we can replicate, and sprinkle in a little bit more here and there, and improve a little more in all aspects,” said goalkeeper Stefan Frei. “[So,] I think we’ll have a good chance.”

The Sounders are bringing back key players, including Albert Rusnák, who recently extended his Designated Player contract through 2026, with an option for 2027. Rusnák had an impressive 2024, scoring 11 goals and setting a club record with 19 assists.

“Albert had a good year, a career year for himself,” said Head Coach Brian Schmetzer. Joining Rusnák is Jordan Morris, who earned a DP spot after scoring 18 goals in all competitions last season.

“He earned that,” said Schmetzer. “And Jordan got better as the year progressed…And he’s going to get [even] better.”

Pedro de la Vega, the team’s third DP, faced injury struggles last season but showed moments of brilliance that should become more consistent in 2025 with a full season and better fitness.

Young players like Paul Rothrock, Georgi Minoungou, Reed Baker-Whiting, Jackson Ragen, and Obed Vargas are also expected to have a bigger impact after strong performances last year.

“There were difficult moments, obviously early in the season,” said Waibel. “But a lot of our young players developed and contributed quite a bit.”

Veteran players like João Paulo, who re-signed with the team for one year on Jan. 10, will continue to play important roles with their leadership and long tenure with the team.

However, the addition of new players Jesús Ferreira and Paul Arriola could help take the team to even greater heights as they prepare for a busy season.

With many trophies up for grabs, these two bring experience from both club and international play, which can strengthen an already solid team. Ferreira and Arriola have both signed three-year contracts after spending eight (Ferreira) and three (Arriola) years with FC Dallas.

“I think the world of them as players,” said midfielder Cristian Roldan. “They bring experience, they bring goals, and they have a re-energized feeling about them. They want to win, they want to win trophies, and they’re going to bring that competitive nature in them.”

Sounders FC (Sounders)

Ferreira ended his time with FC Dallas with 53 goals and 34 assists in 163 regular season games. He has also scored 15 goals in 23 appearances with the U.S. Men’s National Team. His ability to score consistently and play in multiple positions will give the Sounders an offensive weapon they were sometimes missing last season.

“What Jesús presents to our group is fantastic and phenomenal,” said Waibel. “We wanted to add a really dynamic attacking player, and [he] definitely fits the bill.”

Ferreira joining the club on a TAM contract, despite his DP-quality talent, is a big move for the Sounders.

“We have Jesús coming in as a non-designated player, which is, I think, a remarkable feat and something that speaks not just to the situation that he was in or we were in, but to the entirety of our organization, our crowd, our environment, and our success over years and years and years,” said Waibel.

In addition, Arriola’s 11 years of professional experience have exposed him to a variety of playing styles and competition. Whether through his time in MLS, Liga MX, the EFL Championship, or with the U.S. Men’s National Team, his versatility and ability to play at a high level provide the Sounders with a strong option on the wing.

The Chula Vista native has 10 goals in 50 appearances with the National Team and has scored 51 goals with 38 assists at the club level since his debut with Tijuana in 2013.

“Paul is a very experienced, polished player,” said Schmetzer. “He’s going to help us with depth and he’s going to help us with scoring goals…He can be goal dangerous.”

With the Sounders participating in up to five competitions, including the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, the club is gearing up for an exciting yet challenging year.

Schmetzer is confident that the team is well-equipped to compete for multiple trophies. “I think the team is going to be pretty darn good.”

Atlanta United Announced New Head Coach for the 2025 season in Atlanta

With training camp set to start in a few days, the club has officially revealed the coaching staff who will assist head coach Ronny Deila in his first season.

Assistant coach Kenny Miller and goalkeeping coach Elliot Parish will join returning assistant coaches Matt Lawrey and Carl Robinson to complete the technical staff for 2025.

Deila announced that Miller and Parish would be joining his staff at his introductory press conference a few weeks ago.

While he planned to bring some of his core staff members with him, Deila also decided to keep some of Atlanta United’s 2024 staff members to help him and his assistants settle into the organization. Keeping Lawrey and Robinson may prove to be a smart decision.

Lawrey, the club’s former Academy Director, will likely continue to focus on developing young talent, helping Homegrown Players and draft picks adapt to the team and make the most of their opportunities with a new head coach who values hard work and improvement.

He has been with the club since 2016, starting as the U-12 head coach and eventually becoming the Academy Director from June 2021 to April 2024, overseeing soccer operations for the Academy teams and Atlanta United 2.

Robinson joined midway through the 2024 season to assist interim head coach Rob Valentino in keeping the team competitive and pushing for a playoff spot. The former Wales international midfielder started his coaching career in 2012 with Vancouver Whitecaps, where he was an assistant for two years before becoming the head coach in December 2013.

During his time as head coach, Robinson led Vancouver to three MLS Cup Playoff appearances in four seasons, a Canadian Cup championship in 2015, and the club’s first-ever appearance in the Concacaf Champions Cup, including a semi-final finish in the 2016-17 tournament.

Ronny Deila celebrates after the game ends

Robinson then moved to Australia, coaching the Newcastle Jets and Western Sydney Wanderers, before returning to the U.S. with D.C. United as an assistant coach under Wayne Rooney in 2023.

He followed Rooney to Birmingham City for the 2023-24 season and has also assisted the Wales National Team. Robinson holds a UEFA Pro License, which he earned in 2013.

Parish will take over as the club’s goalkeeping coach, replacing long-time goalkeeping coach and set-piece expert Liam Curran. Parish began his coaching career at St. Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership, where he ended his playing career in 2023.

The England native started his career at Aston Villa’s Academy and made his professional debut for Lincoln City in 2011. Most recently, he worked with Deila at Al Wahda FC as the goalkeeping coach.

Miller will join as an assistant coach. Like Parish, Miller also worked with Deila at Al Wahda FC in the UAE Pro League. The former Scottish international began his coaching career in 2016 as a player at Rangers with its U-20 team, before becoming a player-manager at Livingston in 2018.

Miller has previous coaching experience with Carl Robinson, having been an assistant coach on his staff with the Newcastle Jets and Western Sydney Wanderers in Australia.

This is an experienced coaching staff that brings proven skills and knowledge to help support players at all stages of their careers. Atlanta United’s players are in good hands.

Revolution Sign Ugandan Midfielder Allan Oyirwoth in New England

The New England Revolution have signed 17-year-old central midfielder Allan Oyirwoth, who has experience with the Uganda Senior National Team. His contract will start on his 18th birthday, Jan. 23, 2025, and will run through the 2028 MLS season, with a one-year option for 2029.

Oyirwoth was born in Pakwach, Uganda, and has recently become a part of the Uganda National Team. He earned two caps for the senior team, starting with his debut on Nov. 21, 2023, in a FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Somalia, where he provided one assist in a 67-minute appearance.

His second game came in a friendly against Kuwait on Jan. 19, 2024. Oyirwoth also had a strong performance with the Uganda U-20 Men’s National Team at the 13th African Games in 2023, where he scored against Senegal and played in a 2-1 win over Nigeria.

“Allan Oyirwoth is one of the top prospects out of Uganda and a very promising young midfielder,” Revolution Sporting Director Curt Onalfo said. “We are excited to get Allan into our high-potential training environment in New England and help him fulfill his potential.”

Oyirwoth is the second-youngest player on the Revolution’s first team roster as preseason began this week. Before joining MLS, he impressed in Uganda with Amus College School and other clubs.

In March 2023, he was named the Teso Zone MVP after being the top scorer in the zonal school competition. In May, he was the top scorer and earned MVP at the USSSA National Football Championship, a 64-school tournament.

“Allan is a talented young midfielder with a tremendous upside and I’m excited to help him reach his potential,” Head Coach Caleb Porter said.

“At only 17, Allan is gifted technically and has a frame and range athletically that profiles well for MLS. With time to develop in our training environment, I’m confident he can blossom into an impact midfielder for our first team.”

In July 2023, Oyirwoth was the top scorer at the International Schools Football (ISF) Championship in Morocco.

The following month, he led the Federation of East African Secondary Schools (FEASSSA) competition in goals. His successful 2023 continued in October when he won the MVP award at the Buganda Masaza Cup while playing for Club Gomba.

He also earned MVP honors at the National Football Champions when his Amus College team finished as runners-up. In 2022, Oyirwoth was part of the winning teams at the East African Football Championship and the Ateker Cup.

After turning 17, Oyirwoth’s performances in Uganda earned him a move to Leicester, England, in February 2024, where he spent six months at the Brooke House College and Academy, a respected development program with connections to several English Premier League clubs.

3 Key Highlights From Avalanche’s 5-4 Victory Against the New York Rangers in Denver

The Colorado Avalanche ended their three-game losing streak on Sunday by defeating the New York Rangers 5-4.

This win came after their big trade that sent star right winger Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes and brought forwards Martin Necas and Jack Drury to Colorado. The new players had an impact in the win over the Rangers.

Here are three key points from the Avalanche’s victory:

Avs Blow Two-Goal Leads But Hold On and Win in the Final Moments

The Avalanche started the game with a 2-0 lead over the Rangers, but Colorado allowed the Rangers to tie it up.

This pattern repeated when the Avs took a 4-2 lead with just under four minutes left in the second period, only to see the Rangers tie it again with under five minutes remaining in regulation.

Despite having only three shots in the final period, the Avalanche managed to score the winning goal thanks to forward Artturi Lehkonen, who netted the goal with just 15 seconds left in the game.

This win brought the Avalanche’s record to 29-20-2 for the season, and it was a big morale boost for the team after their losing streak.

It also showed their resilience, though they need to work on maintaining their lead in future games. Still, every win counts, and Sunday’s victory showed a lot of heart from the Avalanche.

New Avalanche Players Contribute to the Win Against the Rangers

This was Colorado’s second game without Mikko Rantanen, and while new forwards Martin Necas and Jack Drury didn’t score in the previous loss to the Boston Bruins, they were key in the win against the Rangers.

Colorado Avalanche players celebrate after scoring

Drury scored the first goal of the game (his fourth of the season), while Necas had two assists (his 40th and 41st of the season).

Though Rantanen’s absence will be felt, if Necas can keep contributing like he did in this game and Drury can add some offensive support, the Avalanche will be in good shape moving forward.

Rantanen is still the most talented player involved in the trade, but depth is important for playoff success, and getting immediate help from Necas and Drury helps ease the impact of losing Rantanen.

Makar Shines with Two Goals Against the Rangers

Cale Makar, the Avalanche’s star defenseman, was once again a key player in the win, scoring two goals — his 17th and 18th of the season — and assisting on Lehkonen’s game-winning goal. Makar is on track for a 29-goal, 90-point season, which would set or tie career highs for him.

He is making a strong case for winning another Norris Trophy as the NHL’s top defenseman. Along with superstar center Nathan MacKinnon, Makar is a key player for the Avalanche.

He’s only 26 years old, and his best years may still be ahead of him. Sunday’s win was another example of how Makar can lead the team to victory in many different ways.

Iconic NHL Rivalries That Defined the League’s History

Over more than a century, the National Hockey League has been the setting for exciting games that have not only shaped the teams’ identities but also sparked the passion of countless fans.

The league’s most famous rivalries have gone beyond just hockey, turning into stories of pride, determination, and the endless fight for dominance.

From the first game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs to the fierce competition in western Canada today, every matchup has created unforgettable moments that have impacted the course of seasons.

Montreal Canadiens vs. Toronto Maple Leafs

The rivalry between the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs is one of the oldest and most well-known in NHL history, rooted in the competition between the two largest cities in Canada.

The Canadiens, based in Montreal, are known as the most successful team in league history, having won 24 Stanley Cups, while the Maple Leafs, with 13 titles, are among the most popular and energetic teams in Canadian culture.

The first game between the two teams was in 1917, when the Canadiens were one of the founding teams of the NHL.

Since then, Montreal and Toronto have been seen as the hockey capitals of Canada, fueling a fierce rivalry between their teams. These games carry extra meaning, not just as sports contests but as matters of regional and cultural pride.

Boston Bruins vs. Montreal Canadiens

The rivalry between the Boston Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens has been going on for decades, with fierce competition starting in the 1920s. A key moment in this rivalry came in 1951 when the Bruins, after years of missing the playoffs, began challenging the Canadiens more strongly.

The teams have met in intense Stanley Cup finals over the years, including in 1979 when the Canadiens won their last Stanley Cup by defeating the Bruins.

Even though the teams come from different cities and countries, the rivalry goes beyond borders, driven by physical play and the stories of legendary players like Bobby Orr and Guy Lafleur.

Chicago Blackhawks vs. Detroit Red Wings

The rivalry between the Blackhawks and the Red Wings is known for its intensity and long history, starting even before the NHL.

These teams were part of the original league, and the rivalry grew stronger when Detroit and Chicago became major contenders in the Western Division and the same Conference during the 1950s and 1960s.

A key period was during the 1990s and 2000s when the Blackhawks began to rise after years of mediocrity, while the Red Wings were dominant, pushing this rivalry to new heights.

The games between these teams have been known for their aggressive play and their close geographical location, creating excitement among their fans.

New York Rangers vs. New Jersey Devils

The rivalry between the New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils is considered one of the most heated in recent years, growing over the past few decades due to the teams’ close location.

While the Rangers were founded in 1926, the Devils came along later, in 1974, and quickly became one of the best teams of the 1990s.

The rivalry began to take shape in the 1994 playoffs when the Rangers won the Stanley Cup and the Devils were rising as a strong team.

Through the 1990s and early 2000s, the teams regularly faced off in playoff series, with the intensity of their matchups clear to see. Both teams became symbols of the New York region, making the rivalry even stronger.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

The rivalry between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburgh Penguins is one of the most intense in the NHL, with a history full of competitive games. The rivalry is fueled by the close location of the two cities, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, which have a long history of rivalry in other sports as well.

This rivalry peaked in the late 1980s and early 2000s when the Flyers and Penguins were regular playoff contenders, often facing off in thrilling matches.

The rivalry is fueled not only by the competition on the ice but also by their contrasting playing styles: the Flyers are known for their physical, aggressive play, while the Penguins focus more on skill and finesse.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Calgary Flames

The “Battle of Alberta” is one of the NHL’s most intense rivalries, based on the competition between two teams from the same province in Canada: Edmonton and Calgary. The rivalry began in the 1980s when both teams were strong contenders in the league.

The Oilers, led by legends like Wayne Gretzky, ruled the league, while the Flames were also competitive, leading to many intense matchups, especially in the playoffs.

The rivalry reached a peak in 1986 when the Flames beat the Oilers in a historic playoff series. Since then, the two teams have been known for their passionate games, often filled with tough play, strong moments, and even fights between players.

Los Angeles Kings vs. Anaheim Ducks

While the Los Angeles Kings and the Anaheim Ducks are newer teams in the NHL, their rivalry grew quickly due to the close location of Los Angeles and Anaheim, both in California.

The rivalry began to heat up after the Ducks were founded in 1993, and the two teams found themselves competing for control of the Southern California hockey scene.

The rivalry reached a high in 2007 when the Ducks won the Stanley Cup, while the Kings were still trying to establish themselves. However, the Kings eventually won the Cup in 2012, shifting the rivalry dynamic.

Vancouver Canucks vs. Boston Bruins

The rivalry between the Vancouver Canucks and the Boston Bruins is particularly defined by the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals. Though both teams have their own histories, their matchup in that final became one of the most intense in recent NHL history.

The series was full of dramatic moments and intense fights, including clashes between star players like Roberto Luongo and Tim Thomas.

This rivalry has lasted beyond 2011, with strong feelings between the teams’ fans, especially because of how the Stanley Cup series ended.

Washington Capitals vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

The rivalry between the Washington Capitals and the Pittsburgh Penguins has mostly grown out of their many playoff meetings, with numerous exciting matchups between two of the most powerful teams in the Eastern Conference.

This rivalry is especially marked by the competition between two of the best players in NHL history: Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin.

Over the years, these two players have been the faces of their teams, and each game between the Capitals and Penguins has been a chance to watch them battle head-to-head for supremacy in the conference.

Minnesota Wild vs. Colorado Avalanche

The rivalry between the Minnesota Wild and the Colorado Avalanche started in the 2000s. While the Wild joined the NHL in 2000, their location close to the Avalanche, along with the Avalanche’s success in the 1990s, led to a competitive rivalry.

This rivalry was further fueled by several heated playoff series, where both teams competed for control of the Northwest Division. The rivalry is still strong today, with games that continue to keep fans on the edge of their seats.

Can The Chiefs Make NFL history by Securing a Super Bowl 3-peat against the Eagles in New Orleans?

The Kansas City Chiefs are a very strong football team. You likely already know this. The Kansas City Chiefs are aiming to win their third Super Bowl in a row. You probably knew this too.

We now know that their path to a third straight championship will go through the Philadelphia Eagles, who secured their spot by defeating the Washington Commanders 55-23 in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game.

For almost a year now, it has been clear that the Chiefs are trying to make history (as if they haven’t already done enough).

This season has been unusual for Kansas City because, while they have continued to win as expected, they haven’t looked as dominant as in previous years. It’s a strange combination of their usual success and a sense that they aren’t as strong as before.

Even though they haven’t been as consistently dominant in 2024, the Chiefs finished the regular season with a 14-2 record, securing the top seed in the AFC and a bye in the Wild Card round.

They advanced to the AFC Championship Game with a 23-14 win over the Texans at home. In the AFC Championship, they faced the Bills in a close and exciting game, narrowly winning 32-29 to reach the Super Bowl.

Looking at the facts, the Chiefs have won the last two Super Bowls. They also won Super Bowl LIV in Miami three years before their back-to-back wins in 2023. They have played in four of the last five Super Bowls.

Here’s a breakdown of their recent Super Bowl appearances:

  • Super Bowl LIV, 2020: Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers
  • Super Bowl LV, 2021: Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • Super Bowl LVI, 2022: Kansas City Chiefs did not make it
  • Super Bowl LVII, 2023: Kansas City Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles
  • Super Bowl LVIII, 2024: Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers

This is an incredible run, and it’s historic. While they have achieved a lot, one thing they haven’t done is win three Super Bowls in a row. In fact, no team has ever done that in NFL history.

Kansas City Chiefs players celebrate after a touchdown

In the past, eight other teams have tried to win a third straight championship:

  • 1968 Green Bay Packers: Missed the playoffs
  • 1974 Miami Dolphins: Lost in the Divisional Round
  • 1976 Pittsburgh Steelers: Lost the AFC Championship Game
  • 1980 Pittsburgh Steelers: Missed the playoffs
  • 1990 San Francisco 49ers: Lost the NFC Championship Game
  • 1994 Dallas Cowboys: Lost the NFC Championship Game
  • 1999 Denver Broncos: Missed the playoffs
  • 2005 New England Patriots: Lost in the Divisional Round

Of these eight teams, three missed the playoffs entirely. The Chiefs, who are the top seed and had a bye in the Wild Card round, are not in that situation.

Of the remaining five teams, two won a playoff game but lost in the Divisional Round. The other three—the 1976 Steelers, 1990 49ers, and 1994 Cowboys—each lost their conference championship game, falling just one game short of the Super Bowl.

No team in NFL history trying to win three straight titles has even made it to the Super Bowl. If the Chiefs make it this year, they will make history.

Of course, they want to win that third title. Since no team has ever done this in 58 Super Bowls, it’s safe to say that if they achieve it, it might never happen again.

For comparison, here are the last times a team in the other major American sports leagues won three straight championships:

  • NBA: 2000-2002 (Los Angeles Lakers)
  • MLB: 1998-2000 (New York Yankees)
  • NHL: 1980-1983 (New York Islanders)

Since then, teams in these leagues have won back-to-back titles, but no team has won three in a row. This means the Chiefs have a chance to do something that hasn’t been done in modern American sports in over 20 years.

We’ve known this was possible since the Chiefs won the Super Bowl last February. Now, it all comes down to Sunday, February 9, in New Orleans.

Jimmy Butler Wears Suns-Inspired Kicks in Miami, Hours After Phoenix Trade Move

Jimmy Butler’s choice of shoes during the Miami Heat’s loss to the Portland Trail Blazers has sparked rumors about his possible trade to the Phoenix Suns.

Butler, who wore Suns-themed sneakers, recently returned from a seven-game suspension for conduct issues but continues to show interest in being traded, with Phoenix being his preferred destination.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst highlighted Butler’s desire to join the Suns, saying other trade options are less important to him.

The Suns, who have a 21-21 record and are 10th in the Western Conference, are reportedly strengthening their trade assets.

They recently acquired several first-round picks in deals with the Utah Jazz, which could help them secure Butler. Pairing him with stars Devin Booker and Kevin Durant seems to be a top priority, especially with Durant’s age and the team’s need to improve.

Jimmy Butler prepares to shoot a free throw

Meanwhile, Miami continues to struggle. The Heat have lost four of their last five games, with Butler scoring 13 points, grabbing four rebounds, and dishing out eight assists in the loss to Portland. The Blazers, led by Anfernee Simons’ 24 points and Deandre Ayton’s double-double, secured the win.

Head coach Erik Spoelstra maintains that the team is staying focused, but the rumors about Butler’s future are creating a distraction.

The trade deadline on February 6 is fast approaching, and Phoenix’s recent moves suggest they are preparing to make a serious push for Butler, which could change their playoff chances.

Stephen Curry Guides Warriors to Well-Rounded Win Against Bulls in San Francisco

After losing two straight games, the Golden State Warriors were in desperate need of a team effort to secure a win.

On Thursday, they delivered just that, with a well-rounded performance against the Chicago Bulls, winning 131-106. Stephen Curry led the team in scoring, contributing to a balanced offensive attack.

The crowd at Chase Center was ready for a strong victory, especially after the Warriors were beaten badly by the Boston Celtics 125-85 in their last home game

With the Bulls, who are on the edge of making the playoffs, visiting, the Warriors had a great chance to get back on track.

On January 23, 2025, in San Francisco, Curry led the way with 21 points, shooting 41.7 percent from three-point range.

His shooting helped create space for his teammates to perform. One of those teammates, Quinten Poast, the Warriors’ 2024 second-round pick, had a career-high 20 points, making 7 of 12 shots from the field and 5 of 10 from beyond the arc.

Stephen Curry (NBA)

Bulls player Zach LaVine finished with a game-high 24 points, shooting 50 percent from three-point range.

With this win, the Warriors ended their two-game losing streak, but they are still close to falling out of playoff contention. Currently, they’re only one loss away from slipping into the NBA Play-In Tournament.

Despite their recent struggles, the Warriors still have a good chance to make the playoffs, thanks to the competitive nature of the league and Curry’s leadership.

The Warriors will face the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday for a key game during the NBA’s “Rivals Week.” This game is important for both teams as they fight for playoff spots.

NBA Writer Proposes a Trade Sending Stephen Curry to the Knicks in New York

Stephen Curry is widely regarded as one of the best guards in NBA history. Over the years, he’s had some big performances against the New York Knicks. Curry has spent his entire career with the Golden State Warriors, but is there a chance he could ever play for another team?

The thought of Curry joining the Knicks is an interesting one. While it’s not likely to happen, it’s never completely out of the question in professional sports.

An NBA writer has come up with an idea that would send Curry to New York. Some fans might love the idea, others might hate it, but it’s a possibility to think about.

Dean Simon from The Sporting News suggested that the Knicks could trade Jalen Brunson for Curry. He believes that because the Warriors are struggling this season, they might be more open to trading Curry now than before.

“While it’s certainly not a negative that Brunson has become one of the best point guards in the league today, it may be worth mentioning that their front office could look to swing for the fences and acquire one of the greatest point guards in the history of the sport,” Simon wrote.

“Specifically, the team could target Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors due to his potential ability to mesh well within New York’s offense alongside the sharpshooting Towns.”

Stephen Curry and his wife Ayesha Curry arrive for the women’s singles final of the U.S. Open tennis championship

If New York were to make this trade, they would not only need to send Brunson to Golden State but also include other players to make the deal work. Simon has suggested that names like Jericho Sims, Mitchell Robinson, and Miles McBride could be part of the trade, along with future first-round draft picks.

While trading Brunson for Curry is very unlikely, it can’t be ruled out completely. Brunson is 28 years old, and Curry is 36, which makes the trade risky for the Knicks.

This season, Curry is averaging 22.9 points, 6.2 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game, shooting 44.9 percent from the field and 41.6 percent from three-point range. Brunson, on the other hand, is averaging 26.0 points, 7.5 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game, with shooting percentages of 48.7 percent overall and 38.8 percent from beyond the arc.

The Knicks should likely avoid this trade. While Curry might “fit better” than Brunson with Towns, New York is playing well this season.

It’s fun to think about Curry playing in New York, but not if it comes at the cost of making such a big move.

Anthony Davis Performance Stats As Lakers Secure Biggest Regular-season Win Over Boston Celtics Since 2007

Anthony Davis scored 24 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and blocked three shots to help the Los Angeles Lakers win easily 117-96 against the Boston Celtics on Thursday night.

Austin Reaves scored 23 points and had six assists, while LeBron James added 20 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists for Los Angeles, which won four of their last five games.

Dalton Knecht scored 13 points, Gabe Vincent added 12 points with four 3-pointers, and Rui Hachimura contributed 10 points and seven rebounds for the Lakers.

Kristaps Porzingis scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Celtics, who have split their last 10 games after starting the season with 26 wins in 35 games.

Jaylen Brown had 17 points and eight rebounds, while Jayson Tatum added 16 points, six rebounds, and five assists for Boston, which suffered its largest loss of the season.

Los Angeles led by as many as 28 points and was close to their biggest win margin for the second straight game until Boston’s Jaden Springer hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

The referees confirmed Springer got the shot off in time, so the Lakers’ 23-point win over Washington on Monday remains their biggest win.

Los Angeles made 47.2 percent of their shots, including 15 out of 35 from 3-point range.

Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis is introduced before an NBA basketball game

The Celtics shot 38.5 percent and made 14 out of 41 from behind the arc. Springer scored 10 points for Boston.

The Lakers led by 15 points after the third quarter before James scored six points in a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter, putting Los Angeles up 92-68.

Vincent hit a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 95-70 with 8:54 left as it became clear that Boston wasn’t going to make a comeback on the second night of a back-to-back.

Earlier in the game, the Lakers led 48-32 after Reaves hit a 3-pointer with 6:48 left in the first half. Hachimura and Knecht made consecutive 3-pointers to increase the lead to 64-43 with 2:01 remaining.

The Lakers were up 67-48 at halftime, with Davis leading the team with 14 points. Porzingis had 17 points in the half for Boston.

Tatum hit two consecutive 3-pointers in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 74-62 with 7:19 left. The Lakers later increased their lead to 18 points with two quick baskets from Jaxson Hayes, and the Celtics were down 83-68 heading into the final quarter.

Avalanche edge Rangers 5-4 with a late-game finish in Denver

Cale Makar scored two goals and assisted on the game-winning goal by Artturi Lehkonen with 15 seconds left, helping the Colorado Avalanche beat the New York Rangers 5-4 on Sunday afternoon.

The Avalanche lost two separate two-goal leads but won after goalie Mackenzie Blackwood made a crucial save on Mika Zibanejad’s one-timer with 61 seconds remaining, while Makar was serving a penalty for holding the stick.

Makar’s penalty ended with 24 seconds left. When he left the penalty box, he intercepted a pass from Will Borgen meant for Artemi Panarin in the Rangers’ offensive zone. Makar took control of the puck, started a 3-on-1 rush, and passed to Lehkonen, who scored by lifting the puck over goalie Igor Shesterkin.

The Rangers had tied the game 4-4 earlier when Panarin scored from a rebound off Vincent Trocheck’s shot with 4:58 left. Makar scored both of his goals in the first period, including a power-play goal at 5:24 that gave the Avalanche a 3-2 lead.

Makar’s first goal came just 43 seconds after Jack Drury scored for the Rangers. Juuso Parssinen also scored for the Avalanche, while Nathan MacKinnon and new player Martin Necas assisted on Makar’s goals.

Makar’s performance helped the Avalanche win for the fifth time in 12 games (5-5-2) after a six-game winning streak from December 19 to January 2. Sam Carrick and Vincent Trocheck scored for the Rangers within 86 seconds of each other in the first period before Makar scored during a penalty on Adam Fox.

Borgen also scored for the Rangers, who had their 10-game points streak come to an end.

Blackwood made 34 saves, while Shesterkin allowed five goals on 21 shots. Drury started the scoring at 5:43 by deflecting Keaton Middleton’s shot from the point. Makar then scored his first goal at 6:26, receiving a backhand pass from MacKinnon and shooting from the right circle past Shesterkin.

Carrick made it 2-1 with a tap-in from the left side of the crease at 12:50. Trocheck made it 3-1 with 11:24 left, finishing a 2-on-1 play with Alexis Lafreniere by sliding the puck into the open right side of the net.
