The New York Mets have included McNeil on their NLCS roster, while the Los Angeles Dodgers have removed Vesia and Rojas, adding Kiermaier and Honeywell instead

Jeff McNeil has been added to the New York Mets’ roster for the NL Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers after recovering from a broken right wrist.

Pitcher Alex Vesia and infielder Miguel Rojas were removed from the Dodgers’ roster for the series that started on Sunday, while outfielder Kevin Kiermaier and pitcher Brent Honeywell were included after missing the NL Division Series.

McNeil broke his wrist on September 6 when he was hit by a pitch from Cincinnati’s Brandon Williamson. He returned to play this weekend for Scottsdale in the Arizona Fall League, going 1 for 4 with a walk while playing second base on Friday, and 1 for 5 with an RBI single while in right field on Saturday.

“Just wanted to get through it healthy. Just didn’t want any pain. The wrist felt good,” McNeil said. “I took a really good at-bat, too, my first AB. I think it was six, seven-pitch at-bat and got a base hit. Felt really good. Kind of felt like myself. So as long as I felt good swinging the bat with no pain, I wanted to be here.”

McNeil, the 2022 major league batting champion, grew up in Santa Barbara, about two hours from Dodger Stadium, where he attended games as a Dodgers fan.

“I remember when I got called up in 2018, this is one of the first places I got to play,” he said. “It was pretty cool and special for me to play in this ballpark.”

Right-handed reliever Adam Ottavino was dropped from the Mets’ roster.

New York Mets players reacts after winning the game

Vesia experienced cramping in his rib cage while warming up for the eighth inning during Friday’s 2-0 win over San Diego in Game 5 of the Division Series. The 28-year-old had an MRI, and Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said it was an intercostal injury.

“I think he’s still in play if we are fortunate enough to get to the World Series,” Roberts said. With Vesia absent, Anthony Banda is now the only left-handed pitcher on the Dodgers’ roster.

Rojas has been dealing with a left-thigh strain that kept him out of the last two games against the Padres. He was replaced by Kiké Hernández, who had three hits in those two games, including a solo homer in Game 5.

“He’s obviously a huge part of our ballclub,” Roberts said. “He’s playable, but I think we just, as an organization, felt that what he brings to the table as far as elite shortstop defense, we just feel right now physically he’s a little bit more compromised.”

Tommy Edman will be the starting shortstop for the entire NLCS, according to Roberts. He was acquired from St. Louis at the July 30 trade deadline.

Kiermaier was brought in from Toronto at the trade deadline, and Honeywell was claimed off waivers from Pittsburgh on July 13.

All-Star first baseman Freddie Freeman was in the Dodgers’ lineup for Game 1, set to bat third. He has been struggling with a sprained right ankle that affected him in the NLDS.

“It’s better than yesterday,” Roberts said. “I’m expecting him to start and finish the game. But if we have to defensive replace, we will.” The Dodgers are carrying 13 pitchers and 13 position players.

New York has kept rookie infielder Luisangel Acuña, who is the brother of Atlanta star Ronald Acuña Jr. The Mets have 12 pitchers on their roster.

Shohei Ohtani’s streak of 36 stolen bases came to an end in the NLCS as he was caught for the first time since July 22

The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to win in the playoffs, even without many home runs and stolen bases from Shohei Ohtani.

The Japanese star was caught stealing for the first time in almost three months on Sunday night, ending a streak of 36 successful stolen base attempts.

The Dodgers defeated the Mets 9-0. Ohtani went 2 for 4 with a walk, scoring two runs and driving in another.

He was thrown out trying to steal second base by Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez for the Dodgers’ final out of the second inning in the NL Championship Series opener.

The last catcher to throw out Ohtani was Patrick Bailey from San Francisco, who did so on July 22, also at second base.

Ohtani’s RBI single off Kodai Senga helped give the Dodgers a 3-0 lead and knocked the Mets starter out of the game. Ohtani added another single in the fourth against David Peterson, which allowed a run to score due to a fielding error by right fielder Starling Marte.

Ohtani then scored on Freddie Freeman’s single to make it 6-0.

Ohtani celebrates with Hernandez in the 8th inning

Ohtani has been somewhat quiet at the plate since hitting a tying three-run homer in Game 1 of the NL Division Series against San Diego.

“I think right now he’s in a good spot,” manager Dave Roberts said. “Like I said that last series, I thought he chased it a little bit, but I think tonight he got back into his hitting zone and some good things happened. And even one of his outs was close to being a homer.”

Ohtani is 6 for 8 with runners on base in the playoffs but 0 for 16 when the bases are empty.

“We’re better when we get guys on with Shohei up to bat,” Roberts said. “Obviously when guys are in scoring position there might be a little bit more focus.”

None of the Dodgers’ nine runs in Game 1 came from home runs.

“Everybody’s doing their jobs and scoring early is a key to our game,” Ohtani said through an interpreter.

Ohtani became the first 50-50 player, hitting .310, leading the NL with 54 homers and 130 RBIs, and stealing 59 bases in 63 attempts.

New York Mets’ Kodai Senga has difficulty with his control and was taken out in the second inning by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opening game

Kodai Senga sensed something was wrong just before he took the mound in the opener of the National League Championship Series.

The New York Mets starter faced only 10 batters and managed to get just four outs, struggling with his control as the Los Angeles Dodgers jumped to a 3-0 lead in the second inning on Sunday night.

“I tried to make some adjustments on the fly but obviously I wasn’t able to,” Senga said through an interpreter. “I’m just disappointed in myself that I wasn’t able to make adjustments.”

The Dodgers won the game 9-0. Game 2 is set for Monday afternoon.

The Japanese right-hander, making only his third start this year, walked four of his first eight batters, including three in a row during a 14-pitch stretch in the first inning. He threw strikes on just three of his first 16 pitches and seven out of 23 overall in that inning.

“I think a lot of factors go into it, but the biggest thing might be mechanical error,” Senga said. “Now I just need to reflect back on what happened and make adjustments so I can give a better outing next time.”

Kodai Senga walks to the dugout in the 2nd inning

After walking Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Teoscar Hernández with one out in the first, Max Muncy hit a two-run single up the middle, scoring Betts and a limping Freeman, who touched the plate with his left foot to protect his sprained right ankle.

Senga also had a wild pitch in the first that allowed runners to advance, along with a pitch clock violation in the second inning. He was replaced after his countryman Shohei Ohtani hit an RBI single to right, bringing in Gavin Lux, who had walked to lead off the inning.

“He didn’t have it,” rookie Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said. “He didn’t have the life on his fastball and a lot of balls out of hand, non-competitive pitches, especially the split. You could tell that by the way they were taking those pitches—they were balls out of the hand.”

Senga gave up three runs and two hits while throwing 10 of his 30 pitches for strikes. Reed Garrett came in to relieve him.

Senga started Game 1 of the NL Division Series against Philadelphia and lasted only two innings, throwing 31 pitches.

He missed almost the first four months of the season due to a right shoulder capsule strain. Senga made his only regular-season start on July 26 but then missed the rest of the regular season because of a strained left calf and tightness in his right triceps.

Senga’s fastball averaged 93.5 mph, which is 2.3 mph lower than his season average. Mendoza said the team will evaluate how Senga responds in the next few days.

Kodai Senga pitches in the 1st inning

“Day by day, and then we’ll see how we get to Game 5 or whatever the case might be,” he said. “But I think it’s going to come down to how he’s going to bounce back.”

Down 3-0, the Mets got singles from Jesse Winker and Jose Iglesias to start the fifth inning. Winker hesitated between second and third, then continued to third and was thrown out when center fielder Kiké Hernández threw to second baseman Gavin Lux, who then passed the ball to third baseman Max Muncy.

“Off the bat I read first and third and then I kind of just got caught in no man’s land,” Winker said. “It was just a really bad, bad play by me. … Obviously the baserunning play kind of kicked the wind out of a potential rally. I think that’s what hurts the most.”

Hernández’s body weight shifted toward third as he swung his arm and threw to second, causing Winker to stop.

“Kiké’s heads-up kind of look—body going towards third and then throw behind the runner—just a heady baseball play,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Mets 9-0 in the opening game of the NLCS

After spending his first seven years in the major leagues on the East Coast, Jack Flaherty returned home to join the successful Los Angeles Dodgers and made a bit of playoff history.

Flaherty teamed up for a three-hitter, and Dodgers pitchers tied the postseason record for 33 consecutive scoreless innings by defeating the New York Mets 9-0 in the opener of the NL Championship Series on Sunday night.

“I saw some family out there when I was warming up and I had gone to games here with them before, so it just kind of lets you relax a little bit,” he said.

“Felt I tried to do too much the last couple times out in some big games. Just allowed me to be myself and just go out and pitch and trust my stuff and trust the guys behind me.”

The Dodgers knocked out wild pitcher Kodai Senga in the second inning, building a six-run lead by the fourth. They matched the scoreless record set by Baltimore Orioles pitchers during the first four games of the 1966 World Series against the Dodgers.

With fans chanting “MVP! MVP!” Shohei Ohtani went 2 for 4 with a walk, scoring two runs and driving in another.

Ben Casparius celebrates after winning the match

Mookie Betts contributed with a three-run double in the eighth inning, marking the largest shutout victory in Dodgers postseason history, and it was also the Mets’ most one-sided postseason shutout loss.

“Our energy all started with Jack,” Betts said. “Jack really gave it to us today.” Game 2 of the best-of-seven series is set for Monday afternoon.

Flaherty allowed two hits over seven innings, marking the Dodgers’ first scoreless postseason start of more than seven innings since Clayton Kershaw pitched eight innings in the 2020 NL Wild Card Series.

“It was just a pitching clinic,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “I thought he did a great job of filling up the strike zone with his complete mix. Once we caught a lead, he did a great job of just going after those guys and attacking. For us to get seven innings in a long series was huge.”

Flaherty left the field to a standing ovation from the sold-out crowd of 53,503. The 28-year-old right-hander from nearby Burbank came back home from Detroit at the trade deadline on July 30 and has provided a steady presence in a rotation hit hard by injuries.

“He’s got an aura about him,” Dodgers catcher Will Smith said. “He’s super competitive, super focused.”

Flaherty received a hug from manager Dave Roberts and then hugged his mother, who was sitting behind home plate. Some of his friends from their Little League days in the San Fernando Valley were also there to support him.

“This game is a lot of fun and I’ve been lucky to do it since I was a little kid,” Flaherty said. “As high pressure as they get, I just tell the guys it’s going to be fun. We’ve got to remember that sometimes.”

Flaherty retired the first nine batters he faced, which extended the Dodgers’ streak of consecutive hitters retired to 28, before walking Francisco Lindor at the start of the fourth inning. The only hits New York got off him were two singles by Jesse Winker and Jose Iglesias in the fifth. Flaherty struck out six batters.

“He was getting ahead with his fastball and then the slider, the breaking ball, the slow curve kept us off-balance, but he was getting ahead and making pitches,” rookie Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said. “He tried to make us chase, which we did the first time through the order. Then he was just on.”

Daniel Hudson and Ben Casparius each pitched one inning. Lindor was 0 for 3 with a walk and a strikeout, while Pete Alonso went hitless in three at-bats with a walk and a strikeout.

The Dodgers came back from the edge of elimination against San Diego to win the NL Division Series in five games, achieving shutouts in the last two games.

Kodai Senga pitches in the 1st inning

They started their chase for a record 25th NL pennant by pulling Senga after just 1 1/3 innings in his third start of a season marked by injuries. The Japanese right-hander walked four of his first eight batters, including three in a row during a 14-pitch stretch in the first inning.

“He didn’t have it,” Mendoza said. “He didn’t have the life on his fastball and a lot of balls out of hand, non-competitive pitches, especially the split. You could tell that by the way they were taking those pitches—they were balls out of the hand.”

Senga loaded the bases with one out in the first inning, throwing only seven strikes out of 23 pitches. Max Muncy hit a single up the middle, bringing in Betts and a limping Freddie Freeman, who crossed the plate with his left foot to protect his sprained right ankle.

He stumbled into the arms of Betts, who helped steady the much taller Freeman. Ohtani ended Senga’s night with an RBI single in the second, and the Dodgers added three runs in the fourth against reliever David Peterson, with Tommy Edman and Freeman each getting RBI singles.

Donte DiVincenzo Refutes Rumors of Discontent, Embraces New Role with Timberwolves After Trade

Donte DiVincenzo has addressed rumors regarding his feelings about the New York Knicks acquiring Mikal Bridges, denying claims that he was upset about potentially losing his starting position. DiVincenzo emphasized that while everyone aspires to be a starter, he recognized the necessity for teams to explore different lineups.

He expressed excitement about Bridges joining the team, along with OG Anunoby’s return, viewing it as an opportunity to enhance the team’s competitiveness rather than a threat to his role. DiVincenzo clarified that any assumptions about his reduced minutes or diminished role were unfounded and originated from external speculation rather than any internal discussions.

Last season, DiVincenzo stepped up in the Knicks’ starting lineup due to injuries and exceeded expectations, setting the franchise record for 3-pointers and becoming the second-leading scorer in the playoffs after Jalen Brunson.

Following their playoff run, the Knicks made a significant trade, using five first-round picks to bring Bridges from Brooklyn, which created a logjam on the wing with three former Villanova teammates on the roster, including DiVincenzo and Josh Hart. Despite the logical assumption that Bridges might take over his starting spot, DiVincenzo noted that there were no conversations with the coaching staff or management about his role following the trade.

Donte DiVincenzo
Donte DiVincenzo (NBA)

The trade that sent DiVincenzo to the Minnesota Timberwolves in late September involved him and Julius Randle in a swap for Karl-Anthony Towns. Reports emerged afterward suggesting that DiVincenzo was unhappy about his situation in New York and the Villanova reunion.

However, he strongly refuted these claims, stating that there was no basis for such speculation. He mentioned the dynamic of his new team, where he expects to start in some games while coming off the bench in others, indicating a flexible approach to his role in Minnesota.

During his return to Madison Square Garden, DiVincenzo warmed up on the same hoop where he made a memorable Game 2 winning shot against the Philadelphia 76ers, a highlight for the Knicks in the past two decades.

He was set to play in a preseason game against his former teammates, including Bridges, Brunson, and Hart. Earlier in the week, a GQ Magazine feature involving the Villanova quartet had to be adjusted due to the timing of the trade, but DiVincenzo dismissed any awkwardness, stating their friendship transcends their professional circumstances.

Reflecting on the abrupt nature of his trade, DiVincenzo mentioned that he still owns a house in New York and found it strange to stay there before a road game. Initially upset by the trade, he quickly accepted the move to Minnesota, emphasizing that there were no lingering negative feelings. He expressed a sense of ease with the transition, reiterating that while trades can be jarring, his focus was on embracing the new opportunity with the Timberwolves and moving forward positively.

Knicks’ Second-Round Pick Tyler Kolek Impresses in Preseason, Earning Praise for Work Ethic and Playmaking

The New York Knicks made a significant addition during the second round of the draft by selecting Tyler Kolek, a former Marquette standout. Initial reactions suggested that the Knicks had secured a valuable asset, and since then, Kolek has lived up to the expectations. He has excelled during the summer league and continued to impress during training camp, showcasing his ability to adapt to the fast pace of the NBA. Coach Tom Thibodeau and his teammates have praised Kolek’s dedication, professionalism, and potential as he prepares for the upcoming season.

Jalen Brunson, a key player for the Knicks, has been particularly supportive of Kolek. He noted Kolek’s commitment to improving his game and acknowledged that hard work leads to tangible results. Brunson’s encouragement is crucial for Kolek, who has shown promise by averaging 13 points, three assists, and two steals in his first two preseason games. His performance mirrors that of his summer league outings, where he posted impressive stats with a strong assist-to-turnover ratio, indicating his playmaking ability.

Tyler Kolek
Tyler Kolek (NBA)

Kolek, who was recognized as the Big East Player of the Year in 2022-23, brings a wealth of experience from his time at Marquette. Averaging 15.3 points and 7.7 assists last year, he has maintained his confidence despite joining a team filled with established veterans. He attributes his smooth transition to the NBA to his work ethic and the confidence he has developed throughout his career. Kolek’s perspective reflects a grounded approach, emphasizing that, regardless of the level, basketball remains the same.

As he begins his professional journey, Kolek is realistic about his role on the team, understanding that he may not immediately be part of Thibodeau’s regular rotation. He acknowledges the presence of seasoned players like Brunson and others ahead of him, recognizing that he must earn his spot on the roster. He compares his current situation to previous transitions in his career, highlighting his commitment to rebuilding and establishing a strong foundation for his future in the NBA.

Kolek is already showing traits of a promising player as he learns the ropes of the league. He has taken a page from Brunson’s playbook, who also faced challenges entering the NBA as a second-round pick. Despite having a solid debut against the Wizards, where he scored 15 points and dished out five assists, Kolek remains focused on self-improvement. He has candidly addressed his struggles with turnovers in practice and is determined to find the right balance between scoring and playmaking, demonstrating a mature understanding of his development process.

David Montgomery Signs Two-Year Extension With Lions, Becoming NFL’s Seventh-Highest Paid Running Back

David Montgomery has officially signed a two-year contract extension with the Detroit Lions worth $18.25 million, ensuring his presence with the team through the 2027 season. This new deal features $10.5 million in guaranteed money and places him as the seventh-highest-paid running back in the NFL, with an annual salary of $9.125 million based on new money. The Lions made the announcement on Saturday evening, though they did not disclose the full terms of the extension.

At 27 years old, Montgomery still had two years remaining on his existing contract when the Lions opted to secure his future early. This decision reflects the team’s commitment to its backfield duo, which includes second-year running back Jahmyr Gibbs. Currently, Montgomery ranks as Detroit’s second-leading rusher, accumulating 271 yards and four touchdowns from a team-high 63 carries this season, while Gibbs has recorded 285 rushing yards on 54 attempts and three touchdowns.

David Montgomery
David Montgomery (NFL)

Montgomery joined the Lions in 2023 as an unrestricted free agent after four seasons with the Chicago Bears. His impact has been immediate, starting all 18 games he has played for Detroit. His strong performances have established a powerful one-two punch in the Lions’ backfield alongside Gibbs, further solidifying the team’s offensive capabilities.

In a recent interview following the Lions’ Week 4 victory over the Seattle Seahawks, Gibbs voiced his confidence in their partnership, asserting that they are the best running back duo in the NFL. He emphasized their versatility, making it difficult for defenses to devise strategies against them. Their on-field production supports Gibbs’s claims, highlighting how effectively they complement each other.

Montgomery’s scoring prowess has also been noteworthy, as he has achieved a rushing touchdown in seven consecutive games. This impressive streak ties him with Lions legend Billy Sims for the longest in franchise history.

Since his arrival in Detroit, Montgomery has scored a total of 17 rushing touchdowns, ranking him tied for the fourth most in the league during that timeframe, behind only Derrick Henry, Raheem Mostert, and Kyren Williams. His consistent performance underscores his vital role in the Lions’ offensive strategy.

CAA Fires Jets’ Haason Reddick After Contract Dispute, Leaving His NFL Future in Limbo

CAA, a prominent sports agency, recently fired New York Jets defensive end Haason Reddick, which is a rare occurrence for an agency. The decision reportedly stemmed from Reddick’s refusal to agree to a one-year contract deal that CAA had nearly finalized with the Jets.

This deal would have compensated Reddick for fines he had accumulated during his holdout and provided additional financial benefits. Although the timing of the offer is unclear, sources suggest it was made early in the season.

The details of the contract remain vague, making it difficult to assess whether Reddick made the right call in rejecting it. Both the Jets and CAA now have reasons to frame his decision as unreasonable. CAA’s decision to sever ties with him indicates that the agency felt Reddick’s stance was not justified. However, without a complete understanding of the offer, it’s uncertain whether Reddick’s rejection was a wise move.

Haason Reddick
Haason Reddick (NFL)

Despite this, Reddick stood by his choice, opting not to accept the proposed deal, leading to CAA dropping him as a client. His holdout has continued, and he remains without an agent as the season progresses. Reddick is set to miss his sixth game of the season, creating uncertainty around his future in the league.

The critical issue now revolves around a looming deadline. Reddick must decide whether to return to the Jets in time to satisfy the final year of his contract, which would allow him to become a free agent in 2025. If he chooses to stay away beyond that deadline, he risks postponing his eligibility for free agency until after the 2025 season.

The next step for Reddick will be a pivotal one. His decision to either return in time to meet the contractual deadline or continue holding out will significantly impact his career trajectory. The Jets could also make a move that might influence Reddick’s timetable, as both sides await the outcome of this standoff.

Cardinals’ Marvin Harrison Jr. Exits Game with Concussion, Misses 34-13 Loss to Packers

Marvin Harrison Jr., wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals, was sidelined in Sunday’s 34-13 loss to the Green Bay Packers due to a concussion. The injury took place in the second quarter when Harrison’s head collided with the thigh of Packers linebacker Isaiah McDuffie during an incomplete pass attempt.

At the 6:28 mark in the second quarter, Harrison went down after the hit and was immediately attended to by the Cardinals’ medical staff. He was taken to the sideline for evaluation inside the team’s injury tent. Shortly afterward, the medical team escorted him to the locker room for further assessment.

The Cardinals officially ruled Harrison out of the game early in the second half. His absence left a noticeable gap in Arizona’s offense, which was already struggling to keep up with Green Bay’s dominant performance.

Before leaving the game, Harrison was targeted twice but failed to record a reception. His exit added to the Cardinals’ challenges, contributing to their eventual 34-13 defeat.

Raiders Weigh Davante Adams Trade Amid Interest, Unlikely to Move Without Meeting High Demands

The situation surrounding Davante Adams and his potential trade from the Las Vegas Raiders remains fluid, with frequent changes. While several teams have shown interest in Adams, the level of demand hasn’t been overwhelming. According to league sources, the Raiders have received inquiries but not an overwhelming number of trade offers for the six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver.

The hesitancy from other teams appears to be driven by the Raiders’ asking price, which includes a second-round draft pick and additional compensation, as well as their refusal to cover any of the remaining money on Adams’ contract.

The Raiders are not in a rush to trade Adams and have made it clear that they will only consider a trade if their conditions are met. They are reportedly content to keep the All-Pro receiver if they don’t receive an offer they deem satisfactory.

Despite the interest from other teams, Las Vegas remains firm on its stance, signaling they won’t trade Adams just for the sake of moving him. The team’s decision-making seems to be driven by their long-term vision rather than any immediate urgency to offload the star receiver.

Davante Adams
Davante Adams (NFL)

Among the teams showing interest are the New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills, and New Orleans Saints. The Raiders have been in communication with the Jets and Steelers, with the latter team in town for their upcoming game against Las Vegas. These discussions highlight the interest from multiple teams, though none have yet made a compelling offer that satisfies the Raiders’ demands.

Another factor in Adams’ potential trade is his relationship with Raiders quarterback Aidan O’Connell. Sources indicate that Adams is a strong supporter of O’Connell, who was named the team’s new starting quarterback this week. Adams reportedly views O’Connell as one of the best quarterbacks he has played with, and this belief may contribute to his willingness to stay with the Raiders. Despite the team’s struggles, playing with O’Connell is said to be appealing to Adams.

Adams is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, missing his third straight game this Sunday. Raiders coach Antonio Pierce has stated that Adams is close to returning and emphasized that he remains a key player for the team.

Adams has not spoken to the media since late September, leaving his thoughts on the ongoing trade rumors unclear. However, his connection with O’Connell and the Raiders’ unwillingness to compromise on trade terms suggests that Adams could remain in Las Vegas if the conditions aren’t right for a deal.

Tom Brady Poised to Become Minority Owner of Las Vegas Raiders Following NFL Approval

Tom Brady is set to become a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, with formal approval expected at the NFL fall league meeting in Atlanta. Brady’s bid has already passed through the NFL’s finance committee, which is preparing to present it to the other team owners for a vote. To finalize his ownership stake, 24 of the league’s 32 owners need to approve the deal, but sources indicate this is expected to be a formality given the finance committee’s unanimous approval.

The committee’s recommendation holds significant weight, as it is rare for owners to vote against a unanimous decision from this group. Brady is poised to acquire approximately 10% of the Raiders, joining forces with businessman Tom Wagner in a deal with the team’s principal owner, Mark Davis. Although the transaction was originally agreed upon in May 2023, adjustments were needed after the finance committee raised concerns about the initial terms, which they felt undervalued the purchase.

Tom Brady
Tom Brady (NFL)

Raiders owner Mark Davis has expressed excitement about Brady joining the ownership group, noting that Brady will become only the third former NFL player to own a stake in a team, following in the footsteps of George Halas and Jerry Richardson. Davis sees Brady’s involvement as an important milestone for the Raiders and for the NFL as a whole. The deal highlights Brady’s post-playing career transition, further elevating his status within the sport.

Brady, who retired from the NFL in 2023 after winning seven Super Bowl titles, had previously signed a lucrative 10-year, $375 million contract to become a lead analyst for Fox Sports. He is expected to begin that role in the 2024 season, alongside his new responsibilities as a Raiders minority owner. The timing of this ownership stake marks a significant shift in his career trajectory, as he moves from being on the field to influencing the business side of the sport.

Brady’s ownership role will place him in an elite group of former athletes who have secured stakes in professional sports teams. He joins a distinguished list of sports legends like Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Dwyane Wade, who have made similar moves into ownership. This group of prominent former athletes reflects a growing trend of sports stars leveraging their influence and wealth to invest in teams, further extending their legacy beyond their playing days.

Mark Andrews Ties Ravens’ Career Touchdown Record in Pivotal Performance Against Commanders

Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews made a significant impact during Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders, despite experiencing one of the toughest starts in his seven-year career. Andrews caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Lamar Jackson late in the second quarter, which pushed the Ravens ahead 17-10. The touchdown not only helped the team take the lead but also gave Andrews a share of the Ravens’ record books.

With this catch, Andrews tied the franchise record for career touchdown receptions, matching Todd Heap with 41. However, the season hadn’t been easy for Andrews, who had previously been Jackson’s top target. Prior to the game, he had only managed 10 receptions for 120 yards over five games, making this his least productive start to any season.

Mark Andrews

The game itself had its ups and downs for Andrews. Earlier, a Jackson pass slipped through Andrews’ hands, resulting in an interception, further reflecting the struggles he has faced this season. But despite that setback, he responded by scoring his first touchdown in nearly a year, showing his ability to overcome adversity on the field.

This touchdown was Andrews’ first since October 29 of last season, a span of almost 12 months. The score not only boosted his confidence but also brought an important milestone in his career, signaling a potential turning point in what has been a challenging 2023 campaign for the star tight end.
