Jurickson Profar broke the tie in the seventh inning with a three-run double, while Jackson Merrill contributed three hits as the San Diego Padres defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-3 on Sunday, securing two wins out of three in their weekend series.
Profar’s hit against J.P. Feyereisen gave the Padres their first back-to-back series wins at Dodger Stadium since 2013.
The crucial hit from Profar came after a heated exchange with Dodgers catcher Will Smith during Saturday’s fifth inning. The confrontation followed an inside pitch from Gavin Stone, leading to both benches clearing, although no punches were thrown.
Manager Mike Shildt praised Profar as a veteran presence and a key player for the Padres, highlighting his professionalism and impact on the team.
The Padres capitalized on the Dodgers’ pitchers issuing 14 walks, the most they’ve drawn in a nine-inning game. Ha-Seong Kim and Xander Bogaerts were among those benefiting from multiple walks.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts expressed concern over the high number of walks, acknowledging the challenge of playing perfect baseball in such situations.
Despite Max Muncy’s two-run homer for the Dodgers, their efforts fell short as the Padres secured the victory. Yuki Matsui earned the win with 1 1/3 innings of hitless relief, while Robert Suarez secured his fifth save of the season.
The game saw Manny Machado opening the scoring with a solo home run for the Padres, countered by the Dodgers’ three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
