Prosecutors in Kansas dropped three felony charges on Wednesday against Jackson Mahomes, the younger brother of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, which were related to allegations of forcibly kissing a woman and grabbing her by the neck against her will.

Johnson County Assistant District Attorney Megan Ahsens filed a motion on Tuesday to dismiss three counts of aggravated sexual battery. During a hearing on Wednesday, the felony charges were dismissed, but a fourth charge of misdemeanor battery still stands, to which Jackson Mahomes pleaded not guilty.

The court filing attributed the dismissal of the felony charges to a lack of cooperation from the woman involved. Jackson Mahomes’ attorney, Brandan Davies, asserted that his client “has done nothing wrong” and expressed confidence that the truth would be revealed.

Originally, the charges stemmed from incidents on February 25 at Aspens Restaurant and Lounge in Overland Park, Kansas. Allegedly, Mahomes had a confrontation with a waiter and later forcefully kissed the restaurant’s owner, Aspen Vaughn, without her consent.

Vaughn, who considered Mahomes a friend of her stepdaughter, had previously reported troubles with him at the restaurant. The legal proceedings took a toll on her business, leading to the closure of the restaurant in August due to negative publicity, death threats, harassment, and vandalism.

Tuesday’s court filing revealed an affidavit from Vaughn’s attorneys stating her refusal to testify. Despite this, prosecutors intended to proceed with the case, citing surveillance video capturing the incident. However, subpoenas meant for Vaughn were not delivered, and it was suggested in the filing that she was actively avoiding court appearances.

The remaining misdemeanor battery charge is connected to the alleged shoving of the waiter. A spokesperson for the district attorney’s office declined to comment on the case.
