Renowned boxer Ryan Garcia is eyeing a groundbreaking move into mixed martial arts (MMA), aiming to become one of the most prominent boxers to transition to the octagon. While notable MMA figures like Conor McGregor and Francis Ngannou have ventured into boxing, the reverse journey has seen less traction among top-tier boxers—until now.
Garcia, a prominent figure in the boxing world, is set for a high-stakes bout against Devin Haney on April 20, with hopes of handing Haney his first defeat. Yet, beyond this clash, Garcia has his sights set on UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley, expressing his desire to face him in the MMA arena.
In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Garcia exuded confidence, stating, “I’ll beat his ass in MMA guaranteed.” He emphasized his natural aptitude for wrestling and highlighted his strength and exceptional conditioning, underlining his readiness for the transition.
While O’Malley had previously entertained the idea of a boxing match against Garcia, the latter deemed it insufficient, insisting that his true test lies in MMA.
Garcia asserted that with dedicated training and guidance from MMA luminaries like Nate Diaz and Alex Pereira, he would be unstoppable in the octagon, setting his sights firmly on O’Malley within the UFC realm.
Having already initiated discussions with UFC officials, including reaching out to Dana White directly, Garcia awaits a definitive response. Eager for the opportunity to prove himself in MMA, he remains steadfast in his pursuit, declaring, “I’m down to do it after Devin Haney. All I know is, Dana, hit me back, I’m trying to beat Sean O’Malley’s ass.”
