NFL Rumors: Drake Maye’s Upside Called ‘Outrageous’ by Scouts Before NFL Draft 2024

As the 2024 NFL Draft draws near, all eyes are on prospect Drake Maye. Jeremy Fowler, on SportsCenter, shared the sentiments of NFL scouts who see Maye’s potential as highly promising, labeling him a compelling choice.

Fowler stated, “Drake Maye from UNC stands out as perhaps the most intriguing prospect among quarterbacks, as per the feedback from scouts I’ve conversed with. His potential is deemed outrageous. He possesses a formidable arm and a robust physique. There’s speculation that he could emulate the styles of Justin Herbert or even Josh Allen down the line. However, teams are keen on observing improved accuracy. While some attribute his collegiate accuracy challenges to the supporting cast, teams anticipate seeing him deliver pinpoint throws during workouts at UNC.”

Maye’s status as a potential game-changer isn’t a radical notion. Derrik Klassen of Bleacher Report ranks him as the third-best player overall and the top quarterback prospect. Nevertheless, USC’s Caleb Williams is widely anticipated as the probable top pick in many mock drafts, leaving Maye to contend with reigning Heisman Trophy recipient Jayden Daniels for the second spot.

While Daniels and Williams boast more impressive college statistics, Maye’s performance is commendable. Across 30 career games, he amassed 8,018 passing yards and 63 touchdowns, with merely 16 interceptions. Moreover, he clinched the ACC Player of the Year title in 2022.

Visually, Maye leaves a lasting impression with his imposing 6’5″, 220-pound stature. Additionally, he exhibits dual-threat capabilities, accumulating over 1,000 rushing yards throughout his college career. At just 22 years old upon entering his rookie season, he possesses ample time for developmental growth within a team’s system.

The first round of the 2024 NFL Draft is slated for April 25 in Detroit.
