Former Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips believes that Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard should have been a regular starter for the club long ago.

Trossard’s recent outstanding form for the north London side, including four goals in his last five games, has caught Wright-Phillips’ attention.

With striker Gabriel Jesus sidelined due to injury, Trossard has seized the opportunity, starting in their last two matches, both of which resulted in convincing victories over West Ham United (6-0) and Burnley (5-0).

Following Arsenal’s dominant win over Burnley at Turf Moor in the Premier League on February 17, Wright-Phillips commended the team’s performance, stating:

“You have to give credit where credit is due, the way they are playing, especially the chances they are creating and taking. The positive is that it just isn’t one person. The goals are coming from everywhere.”

He particularly lauded Trossard for his recent displays, expressing:

“To see Trossard move, for me, he should have been starting a long time ago. To see him on the scoresheet, getting his goals in and creating chances as well. They are only moving forward at the right time.”

Trossard arrived at Arsenal from Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2023 for a reported fee of £27 million. Despite facing competition for a starting position, he has managed to contribute significantly, tallying 11 goals and 12 assists in 51 appearances for the club.

Under the management of Mikel Arteta, Arsenal currently sit second in the Premier League standings, just two points behind leaders Liverpool.
