This win gives Ostapenko, a Latvian who previously won the 2017 French Open in singles, and Kichenok their fifth title together. Kichenok dedicated the triumph to her native Ukraine.

Mladenovic, who has six Grand Slam doubles titles, fell to 0-3 in U.S. Open finals. Zheng, who won the 2021 U.S. Open title with Sam Stosur, was seeking her second trophy in New York.
