Teoscar Hernández made a big hit with a grand slam, and James Paxton pitched six innings without letting the Padres score as the Los Angeles Dodgers won 5-0 on Saturday night.

Freddie Freeman also contributed with a solo homer for the Dodgers, who have been doing well lately, winning eight out of their last nine games.

Shohei Ohtani, the designated hitter for Los Angeles, had to leave the game after his fourth time at bat because of tightness in his back. Manager Dave Roberts said he’s not too worried, but Ohtani will probably take a break on Sunday just to be safe.

Paxton, who is now 5-0 this season, was really good in this game. He only allowed four hits, struck out four batters, and didn’t walk anyone.

“James did great again. He had control of all his pitches and kept the Padres guessing,” Roberts commented. “He was attacking them all night.”

It was a much better performance compared to Paxton’s last start against the Padres on April 14 when he walked eight batters.

The game had a record-breaking attendance of 46,701 fans at Petco Park, the highest ever for a single game in the stadium’s 20-year history. The previous record was set on opening day in 2014, also against the Dodgers.

Despite the loss, the Padres have won four out of seven games against the Dodgers this season. The teams will play the final game of the series on Sunday.

With the Dodgers leading 1-0 in the sixth inning, Hernández hit a home run to left field off a slider from Padres pitcher Enyel De Los Santos.
