The Buffalo Bills took the first steps in strengthening their receiver corps by reaching an agreement to sign free agent Mack Hollins on Wednesday, according to a person familiar with the discussions who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

The deal was first reported by ESPN.com ahead of the NFL’s official opening of the free agency signing period later in the day.

Hollins, boasting seven seasons of NFL experience, had his most productive year in 2021 with the Las Vegas Raiders, recording 57 catches for 690 yards and four touchdowns. Last season, the 30-year-old played for the Atlanta Falcons, contributing 18 catches for 251 yards in a run-focused offense.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 221 pounds, Hollins offers the potential to give quarterback Josh Allen a sizable target to complement Stefon Diggs and Khalil Shakir. His signing helps offset the departure of starter Gabe Davis, who agreed to join the Jacksonville Jaguars as an unrestricted free agent this week.

With the release of backup receiver Deonte Harty last week, Buffalo is expected to look to the draft next month to further bolster the position.

Hollins was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round of the 2017 draft out of North Carolina and spent his first two-plus seasons with the team. He has also played for Miami, amassing 131 catches for 1,691 yards and 10 touchdowns over his career.
