Sonny Milano got his first hat trick in the NHL, and Alex Ovechkin scored another goal as Washington ended Carolina’s five-game winning streak with a shootout win on Friday night.

Ovechkin’s goal was his 846th in the NHL, while Milano’s third goal was an impressive one, with him juggling the puck off his stick and batting it into the net. The crowd was energized, chanting “Ovi! Ovi!” after his goal.

This win is significant for Washington’s playoff hopes, as it brings them within one point of Detroit for the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference and two points behind Philadelphia for third place in the Metropolitan Division. They’re still in the playoff race, with plenty of games left to play.
