Unfortunately, Maurice Hurst won’t get the chance to go to Brazil this year. Instead, it will be the Green Bay Packers.
The NFL recently announced that Green Bay will play against Philadelphia in Brazil for the first time ever. The game is scheduled for Friday, September 6, which is the night after the Chiefs host the regular-season opener.
This game will be exclusively streamed on Peacock, with over-the-air broadcasts available in the two markets represented by the teams.
The NFL is allowed to broadcast a game on this day because it falls on the first Friday in September. The Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 prohibits Friday and Saturday broadcasts starting from the second Friday in September.
In practical terms, the NFL will schedule Friday night games whenever the first Friday in September falls after Labor Day. So, this applies to years when Labor Day lands on September 1, 2, or 3.
This means that we can expect Friday (and possibly Saturday) games on the first weekend in September in 2025, 2029, 2030, and 2031.
