The Detroit Lions have secured Pro Bowl guard Kevin Zeitler for the upcoming season, according to a source familiar with the situation who spoke to The Associated Press on Monday.

The agreement, although not yet officially announced, fills a crucial gap in the Lions’ offense following the departure of Jonah Jackson, who signed with the Los Angeles Rams in free agency last week. This move comes after the team opted to retain versatile offensive lineman Graham Glasgow.

Zeitler, 34, earned his first Pro Bowl selection last season during his tenure as a starter with the Baltimore Ravens. Drafted from Wisconsin by the Cincinnati Bengals in 2012, he quickly established himself as one of the league’s top rookies.

Throughout his 12-year career, Zeitler has started 181 games, including stints with the Bengals, Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, and most recently, the Ravens.

Brad Holmes

Lions general manager Brad Holmes has been proactive in free agency, aiming to bolster the team following their recent success in the playoffs. Holmes, whose contract was recently extended, secured defensive tackle DJ Reader to a significant two-year deal worth up to $27.5 million to address a key position.

In addition to Zeitler, the Lions have been active in acquiring talent on both sides of the ball. They acquired cornerback Carlton Davis from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and signed edge rusher Marcus Davenport and cornerback Amik Robertson.

On Monday, the Lions also retained receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones, along with special teams standout Jalen Reeves-Maybin and cornerbacks Emmanuel Moseley and Khalil Dorsey, in a series of moves aimed at solidifying the team’s roster.
